Thanks IV for doing the legwork on that.
Yeah, the dude's been on Twitter/X for 13+ years and has less than 500 followers. That alone suggests he's not really worth paying attention to, and those two posts you found are great examples of why.

Hearing word from Friar alumni that Providence is biting the bullet and firing Kim English despite the big buyout. Monkey see, monkey do in the New England basketball scene? Hopefully

Ouch. He's on contract thru the end of the 2029-30 season. I saw something about a buyout being $10 million. That's a lot for PC to have to eat. Curious how they'll fund that.
Must be nice that they don't have football distracting them.

CBS Sports just sent out a notification about the PC/Kim English firing, so that seems legit.

I’d take English.

Hard pass. He had a $10m roster and couldn't get it done.

Wonder how long it'll take UMass to change course. If Frank had any pride, he'd take a pay cut to allocate more to players.

Wonder if Schmidt was forced out. Just doesn't seem right that he doesn't get a 20th year with all he accomplished at Bona.
There's an alternate timeline out there where Schmidt accepted the UMass job 4 years ago. Wonder where the program would be today if that had been the case.

All the reports leading up to the "retirement" announcement indicated he was being forced out. I don't see any reason to think that didn't happen.
They were 14-18 in 22-23 and 15-16 this year, but otherwise he had 20+ win seasons each year since the Covid season. And we know the success he had prior to that as well. I don't think this guy just ups and retires, especially considering he was in the running for UMass just 4 years ago, and I think recently BC too.

Tied for 14th (last) place in the A10 this year. 7th last year and 8th the year before that. His 20 years started with 4 very bad years, before several mediocre years that saw one surprising A10 tournament championship. After a few more mediocre years, Schmidt's teams had 5 good years, but these last 3 years of struggle for the 63-year-old coach, especially their poor showing this season were enough.

Are we forgetting that Bona is at a big competitive disadvantage compared to the other A10 schools?

^ I am not. I have no idea how he recruited and won at that school. I think the phrase "doing more with less" was probably trademarked by Jon Rothstein in reference to Schmidt.

BC just fired Grant and he has 3 years left on his contract.
