I don't know but to be fired with two games left is strange.

Because the early signing period is the first week in Dec and if they have a new coach hired he can do some recruiting then.

"Bamford said sticking out the rest of the 2024 campaign with Brown and then firing him would have prevented him from talking to potential coaching candidates until Dec. 1 (UMass’ last game is Nov. 30). In order for UMass to have the best chance at getting its guy, the AD said moving quickly was an unfortunate necessity.

Even further, the transfer portal opens up on Dec. 9, and early signing day for high school recruits is less than two weeks after that. The sooner UMass has a head coach and a staff put together, the greater its chances are at landing transfers out of the portal. Entering the second week of December without a head coach in place would’ve put the Minutemen at a significant disadvantage in recruiting, according to Bamford."

Will aslo add in that the AD that hired Neal Brown is now at Southern Miss and looking for a head coach.
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

I think this is BS hindsight 20/20 from Bamford. He was clearly talking to DB when Bell was still the coach. Unless the rules have changed drastically there is nothing someone could tell me that would make me think informal talks are not common or possibly even the rule. Sure we couldn’t hire until 12/1, talk? BS.

Only had about 30 seconds, he was in a rush to get to a connecting flight. I just got to tell him how great I thought he is, shake his hand and a quick Go UMass.

His hands a ridiculously long. A basketball looks like a softball in his hands.

O-2 on football hires.
Hoops...got left at alter by pat(best move he made, got here, saw disaster, got to get out of amherst stat) matt...brutal, frank...nope! 0-3 really.
Greg...success...came with rug sweeping.
Verdi...darice made that hire.

So 1-5 so far with rug sweep to keep.

I think the women will get better. LaFleur had support from a lot of players. I think Frank will stick around for a bit. His son is graduating WM this year, not sure if he will be at UMass or not. He is a great shooter. I know many didn’t like him having his older son on the team before.

I think this thread needs to be bumped every so often as a reminder that as long as RB is at the helm Umass will continue to flounder near the bottom of the Major College Sports world.

He had to beg just to get back int the worst FBS football conference in the country. Bravo Ryan.... Bravo.

There are legitimate reasons for wanting Ryan Bamford gone. That last paragraph isn’t one of them.
UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student.
