Agree we need a decision and consistency. A key part of branding is see a color make an association e.g. Tennessee orange, Carolina blue etc . The red tones make that association difficult since look like Harvard and BC. IMHO deep maroon is the color I as an alumnus associate with he University of Massachusett .

These won't make you happy then... do other schools have t-shirts like this? Seems a bit ludicrous that we'd have a UMass Amherst t-shirt with colors that aren't even remotely similar to our school's colors... I know you wouldn't find a t-shirt like this at Michigan or Ohio State.

I don't mind different color random tees for the school... those are going to come up from time to time. It's the inability to be consistent with the school colors in almost every facet of the University that is frustrating. You can do different color shirts like these.. the issue is when you do a color like this but UMass is spelled out in bright red instead of maroon.

We were in Madison Fri - Mon...
We did not go in the UW bookstore this trip, but did walk past it...
all clothing in the window was the real UW red and white...no variations...
Everywhere you go there, UW red and white...
not dark red, pinkish red, etc.
Many of the non-UW businesses use the red and white...
One boutique even had their plastic bags in the same colors...some red/some white...
Great source of pride and tradition.

Have to say, I'm very pleased with the new uniform reveals we've seen this year. Really a big fan of the "traditional" look of the football and basketball uniforms and feels like we are taking our place as the commonwealth's team. Hope they're here to stay.

The only issue I still have is the power U logo, but that aside I will say the uniforms this year are a massive step in the right direction. Hope the new hockey sweaters follow the trend - however they were already the best uniforms we had IMO, so excited/nervous to see what they came up with.

I’m all for going back to the script “Umass” of the Cal era. It’s become somewhat iconic especially since the change to the boring block letters in 2003-04. Just got that black tee with the basketball in the logo from 19nine. Looks so damn good.

I also love “MASSACHUSETTS” in all caps on football unis. Gives them a clean retro look. Couple that with the 90s “Umass” on the helmet and you’ve got a winner. The Unis for the Rutgers game were awesome.

UMass has officially endorsed 202c
https://www.umass.edu/brand/elements/color
A great deal of detail is provided in that url.
Then it is all about enforcement, or lack thereof.

Hasn't it always been 202 C (at least for academics)? To your point, the problem is with enforcement (or the lack thereof).

Update from the Boston Globe on the new state flag.
https://www.bostonglobe.com/2021/11/28/ ... orthanded/
For now, it seems like the initiative is going nowhere. But with the UMass seal being essentially a maroon version of the state seal, I wonder if that will get an update as well.

There's a good new article on this history of UMass athletic nicknames, particularly the Redmen.

I thought the colors were Maroon and White; When did Maroon and Black become official?

Maybe this is just for university branding not UMass athletics? Regardless, maroon and white looks so much better than maroon in black.
