I think you misunderstood me. I played high school football with a lot of kids who played at Amherst, and loved going to watch them play when UMass had an away game. So I have nothing against Amherst players at all.

I was just trying say that many of the NESCAC players aren't as perfect as they seem. They party just as hard as any SEC players. They just have a lot more resources to get them out of trouble. That's why it's rare to see any news of arrests or controversy. It's hard for them to get in trouble, no matter what they are up to.

I don't deny they party like any college kid. But NESCAC kids take real courses and go to class. Big difference between that and what goes on in the bigtime. I'm sure that's part of what Swampy likes about it....it's actual college athletics, with actual student-athletes. I like that level of football, too.

Hahaha. I'm a Jeffs fan, I check on the scores of their games. But I think the Amherst football players would be insulted if you said they didn't party as hard as any SEC player. Actually, the Amherst players probably party harder than the SEC players, so you could be right, the comparison could be laughable.

So anyways, back to UMass.

I've been reading the Conference USA message boards, and the people over there don't seem to think UMass is in the mix for a football only invite if UAB does in fact drop football.

The names they say they've heard as possible invites to Conf-USA are, Louisiana-Lafayette, Texas State, and believe it or not, Akron.

I still think we have a shot of getting an football only invite if UAB does disappear.

At first I was thinking all the talk about UAB Football getting cut was just posturing to try and get more donations or something, but this is sounding way more serious than that.

Would be brutal for that school, but could help us out. So I am torn on how I feel.

I think that guy is just being realistic about the future of that program. They have a lot of things working against them. However they are getting a new soccer field and they have a pretty good hoops program so it's not all doom and gloom for UAB. Some of the commenters seem to think that UAB is out of CUSA automatically if they drop FB. Hopefully that is not the case because then they will probably be looking for another full member to replace them and I'd hate to see UMass go full membership in CUSA.

Interesting that the strategic study that could determine UAB football's fate is none other than Carr Sports Associates, the same company that we paid a whole bunch of money to to help us find Whipple and get us in a conference. Oh wait, we paid them a whole bunch of money to do neither of those

Maybe their plan all along was to get UAB to drop football so we could join Conf-USA for football???

Don't forget that Hawaii is in a similar boat to UAB, and I find their dropping football more likely than UAB due to the logistics and cost of scheduling/traveling with such a large entourage for FB.

But Hawaii backtracked and came out and pretty much said they were just posturing to try and get more money from the state. The state won't let Hawaii drop football, it's just too important for the university in terms of awareness back on the mainland. And it's the flagship campus.

UAB is in a much worse position because the state never wants them to compete with Tuscaloosa. So they just don't give them any money. Just look what happened back in 2006 when Jimbo accepted the head coaching position at UAB for $600,000 a year and the state board said nope. They lost out on a chance to have an up and coming (at that time) coach who now runs one of the most successful college football programs in the country at FSU, all because the board didn't want to spend just a little more money.

Seen 6-7 teams mentioned and UMass and JMU are not mentioned, but does not mean there is no consideration. Seen 4 Sun Belt teams and 2 MAC teams mentioned.

Has there been any word on the final games scheduled for 206 and 2017. I believe we are supposed to have 13 games each year since we are playing Hawaii. However reviewing the current schedule we have 7 road games and 2 home games scheduled.
