As you drive West out of Boston - every 10 minutes of driving adds about 1 year to your project completion if any state funds are part of it - that puts us around 2030 before they put a shovel in the ground at McGuirk.

Well, except for the Big Dig...... and the new elementary school in Milford went up ahead of schedule and under budget, and we're about 35 miles from Boston. So there goes that thought process.
Also the updates to the Blue Wall were pretty damn quick. And some of the new buildings that went up on campus over the past decade or so went up fairly quick (the North Campus dorms, the Commonwealth College Dorms, the Integrated Science Center, the Marching Band Building, the Rec Center...and a few more).

^Proving that when they WANT to build quickly they can do it. When it comes to the stadium they pretty much said they DON'T want to do it.

If you start having sell-outs and increasing the the revenue, things become a little easier to manage.

Construction is evolving rapidly. To build a stadium, I assume prefab concrete be used. Just like the comm Ave bridge, it can get done quickly. Moreso than just a few years ago. I think once the decision is made to build, it will not take as long as it used to.

It's just getting to that point that will be the problem.

Baby steps..... I wonder if there is any kind of stadium mock-up and if that includes adding on to existing or a demolition and starting over?

Difference between the Globe and the Herald when it comes to covering UMass football is amazing. Picture of a full stadium was nice to see in an article about the team.

^ It helps a tad when you have ex Collegian guys doing the covering. :D

Thought Bamford said all the right things in that article. Make the current McGuirk better and more fan friendly. Once you get the demand to increase seating, focus on it then. You can't sell increasing the capacity upstream when you can't consistently fill the stadium as is.

Agreed. Lets work on putting lipstick on the pig and getting 15-17K to show up for every game first. I'm sure something new or renovated could be negotiated if a potential conference wanted a better stadium.

I know that a couple of years ago in the new building they had three mock ups of potential expansion. Probably still around someplace.

The mock ups are still there, they are selling recruits on them. Wins and a big spike in attendance will help the argument to retool McG, but a new conference will be the kicker.

If I had won the lottery, we would have had a new stadium next year! :D

Anybody know Mavis from Chicopee? Hit her up for a few mill, we can even name the new stadium after her.
