2019 Recruiting
Re: 2019 Recruiting
Depending on your team I think you can get by with Clergeot in short spurts running things but beyond that I think you'd struggle a bit to have a consistent offense. I'd much rather have him playing as a secondary ballhandler vs. running things.
He always seems to play hard, did let things slow down a bit for him as the season went along, and he seems like he would be a pain the ass to play against. He also seems to give a shit, which should not be underrated.
He brings a lot to the table. Just not sure I love him as a point guard for more than a few minutes every game (that depends on who is on the floor with him) - I like having him on the court though -- much more than I thought I would.

Absolutely. He really grew on me and has an edge to him that I really like. I also think as a Florida guy he and McCall probably connect. For that same reason, I'm a bit surprised Laurent is leaving.Jackson96 wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 5:40 pm He also seems to give a shit, which should not be underrated.

I like Keon. He's got a toughness and aggressiveness that I think is perfect for the younger guys to see. Looks like a kid that just wants to win. Plus I'm sure he'll develop even more the next 2 years because he looks like a pretty hard worker

Re: 2019 Recruiting
247sports has UMass ranked at 55 nationally with just Santos (3 star) and Buggs (2). Were they to count Mitchell (4) we would match Washington at number 21. I know it doesn't work that simplistically but as soon as Mitchell signs we will move up substantially. I'm getting a little anxious waiting for that NLI.
Edit - I read it wrong. They are counting Mitchell and Santos but don't list 2-stars and below on their main sheet. Signing Adams-Woods would move them up some.

The signing period starts this Wednesday, April 17 so let's hope we know everything on the 17th.capezona wrote: Sun Apr 14, 2019 7:17 pm 247sports has UMass ranked at 55 nationally with just Santos (3 star) and Buggs (2). It looks like Sean East is still in play. A year of prep school helped him a lot. He was pretty good in HS but was overshadowed by teammate Romeo Langford, a 5* who went to Indiana and led them in scoring as a freshman. East probably isn't our first choice, but I would like him as our 2nd PG if we take 2.

.@NewAlbanyHoops product Sean East, who just completed a season of prep school hoops, will make his college decision on April 28. He's considering Fordham, Massachusetts, Mercer and Southeast Missouri. @Rise_shine_35
NeverStopRecruiting tweeted that East played against Woodstock and had 17 points and 8 assists, so an assistant coach-to-be knows him.Playing against some of the top prep schools in the country, East had a big year. The 6-foot-3 point guard posted 20.2 points per game, 8.2 assists, 5 rebounds and 2.4 steals while shooting 43 percent from 3-point range.

Hockey is over so I find myself dreaming up ways we can find our PG of the future. Will Noah Fernandes ask for his release from Wichita State?

He's a 4* PG on ESPN.com.Senior guard Grant Sherfield verbally committed to Wichita State on Tuesday, he told 247Sports. Sherfield ranks No. 135 overall and as the No. 22 combo guard in the 247Sports Composite Rankings. To go with Sherfield, Wichita State also holds commitments from four-star guard Ty Etienne and three-star prospects Noah Fernandes and DeAntoni Gordon.

Re: 2019 Recruiting
Recruiting sites rankings are so far off it's ridiculous. Looking at UMass all-time recruits: David Gibbs is ranked 6 and Pipkins 20. Ricky Harris is 39, below Travon Wilcher at 33.
They really just don't know what a guy's going to do once he gets to college. There are so many variables. I don't know what goes into the rankings but I can't imagine that they play much of a role in a coach's thinking when recruiting.

Tre mitchel has signed his NLI per his instagram
Re: 2019 Recruiting
TJ Weeks has signed his NLI according to a tweet by Coach McCall along with Trey Mitchell as mentioned above! Welcome gentlemen and bring back that winning tradition to Amherst.
Re: 2019 Recruiting
Glad the wait is over. That also means that the contract for Bergeron is a done deal. From what I have heard, UMass wants to announce all 3 assistant coaches at the same time.
My feeling is that it's better to be the last visit. That theory will go out the window if he signs with Oregon State during the earlier visit. We have 3 spots to fill and maybe 5 or 6 players we are heavily involved with. One has to be a PG. As for bigs/wings, it might come down to whoever signs first gets the slot.NeverStopRecruiting

2019 JUCO wing Sean Miller-Moore to visit UMass 4/25-4/27, preceded by a visit to Oregon State 4/19-4/21. Fingers crossed here for UMass, Miller-Moore is a very good player who can fill a definite need, would be a great fit for both parties.

Re: 2019 Recruiting
Tj weeks has been rated a 3 star 87 from 247 sports. Pretty solid rating for a guy who was unranked prior to committing. We also have the top class in the a-10
