The chaos agent got a get out of jail free card from the ultimate chaos agent.
Only added to Belgium's fuel and made the situation worse for the US. Trump being in involved in last nights game was equivalent to the Knicks losing the only game he attended in the finals.
To be frank, Round of 16 is how far I expected this team to go, this is essentially equal to the first round of sudden death in the old WC format after the expansion.
US doesn't have a true leader on their team, hopefully this will create a larger presence for US soccer and folks will show more interest and now start to support their local soccer teams.
Like Belgium needed the locker room material provided by our fearless leader….
Their mocking his dance after the game said it all.

Fun World Cup
FIFA and Argentina have been the controversy of the World Cup.. has VAR ruined the game for the real soccer fans? That no goal was pretty nuts considering Argentina had the same exact scenario, foul in the back end that resulted in a goal earlier the World Cup and that goal was not even reviewed by VAR.
Anyways, top 8 is in:
France
Morocco
Spain
Belgium
Norway
England
Argentina
Switzerland
I think a France vs England final would be most exciting.. Haaland to me, is the player of the tournament so far

I'll predict France, Belgium, England, and Argentina to go to the semis. Spain just seems to be a bit rudderless right now and a few top options for Belgium barely played vs USA (Doku and KDB). Would love to see Spain and Argentina focus and play like we know they can.
Would love to see Haaland help carry Norway to victory over England.

Semifinal games are on at 3:00 EST today and tomorrow. How are these not in the evening? If the discourse out there is that Americans don't care about soccer, then putting big matches on at times when most of the country can't watch should help fuel that narrative. I get that they're catering to the European audience that is 5+ hours ahead, but it sucks for those of us in the States that are interested.

I was going to say what you said at the end. This is a 9 pm start in Spain and France, so I would guess that is why.

Every summer, the culture differences between the US and Europe really hit home.
I suspect most people in Spain, England, and France are on holiday right now. I don't know much about Argentina's culture except it's January there, so who knows.

What a game. Ultimate pain for England, brutal way to lose. Messi is unreal, just an unbelievable cross on the go ahead goal. True greatness and we are privileged to watch him.

England packed it in way too early. There was what, 30 minutes or more left in the game after they scored, and they went into a complete defensive shell, seemingly happy to let the Argentines tee off at will. It was only a matter of time until Argentina tied it with that that strategy, and then with the subs that each team put in (Argentina all offense, England all defense), it was pretty clear that Argentina was going to be able to continue to attack with England able to do nothing but sit back and get pelted.
I was able to watch the second half and the atmosphere and excitement was incredible. What a tournament. I'm excited for the final, at a day and time that I can watch the whole thing.

Great World Cup! I do think that the best team won it all.. defense wins championships. Argentina didn't stand a chance in the finale.

The most dominant 1-nil win you'll ever see. Spain was clearly the best team, glad they finally came through in extra time. It would have been a shame if that went to PK's and Argentina somehow pulled out the win.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it on the broadcast, but the fact that they only allowed 1 goal all tournament is mind blowing. That's dominance. And Argentina didn't even get a single shot on target or otherwise until the final extra time minutes when they were in full scramble mode.

Argentina did have that early opportunity, when Unai Simon came out about 30 yards to challenge Alcarez. Doesn't count as a save, but that was incredible and incredibly crazy. After that, I can't even recall a serious Argentina threat yesterday.
Cape Verde can forever say that they stood toe to toe with the champions!

I'm not much if a soccer fan, but I did watch some of the game. Total domination by Spain. I did see one funny comment:
If I want to watch a bunch of guys fail to score, I can just go to a pub.
