I don't know if that's true. I don't think coasting through a job and going through the motions is in his DNA. I think he's trying and wants to succeed here, but I just don't know if he's capable of anything more than what we've seen.

Agree to an extent. I do not think he is going through the motions. The greater context of college athletics/NIL will hopefully shake out soon, and I think that has a lot to do with success at anywhere but a handful of institutions. I do think he can succeed at the MAC and showed glimpses of it even when we were in the A10 with Cross, etc. I think having continuity matters a ton for him. This year might be something coming up.

I can summarize Frank and his coaching style thusly - Bobby Knight (without the in-game strategy).

I grew up and played in a time when that stuff worked... In today's game, it doesn't - Period.

Call it coddling, call it soft, call it whatever you want.... today's player is not motivated by what Frank does. I have ZERO problem with Frank's intentions and his desires to get the best out of his players, but his methods no longer work on any level; and he has been unable to adapt and adjust to today's player and game. What makes it worse (IMO) is I think he knows it, but he just cannot fix it. It is hard wired into him.

He sells himself to recruits on those intentions and desires, and then pushes them all out with his actual actions. Ironically, Calapari is almost as much of a maniac on the sidelines as Frank is, but he knows how to balance the hard and soft - Frank does not in any way, shape or form.

Cal gets the results, which makes the players believe in what he's saying more. And the winning gets the better recruits. So there's something different in their approach, gotta be

It is hard for me to critique anything these days without knowing the payrolls of these schools. I know it's been rumored that we spend more than the other MAC schools, but do we actually know this to be fact? I think this year will tell us a lot going forward.

It is more difficult to research that one would think, but based on the limited information I could pull, Frank is the highest paid HC in MAC basketball. Numbers are all over the place but the most I could find for any other HC was $1.25M - still not 100% sure if that is the Current Salary number, but i bet it is not far off.

Frank has been engaging with people on the bird site about the 5th year injunction
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... caa-season

One thing stuck out to me...
The system has definitely been flawed for a while. However, over the last 10 years in men’s basketball we’ve been graduating our players at a higher rate than the average student in school.

As to how his players graduate at a higher rate than the average student ... I hope so.

I don't know the extent of the academic support that the players currently get, but I'll bet heavily that it's massively more than what the average student gets. If my eyes are correct, I regularly spot Colby Hall at MBB away games. So not only do the players have access to support staff when they're on campus, they get it on road trips too.

I've been out of UM for 3 decades now, but I remember times where the professor probably didn't know my name, and it was a struggle to get a sliver of a Teaching Assistant's attention, and that was OK, it taught me self-reliance.

Frank on the hellscape today:
@coachFMartin
Here’s a thought for boarding a flight:
Make passengers have to press their carry on bags over their head. if they can’t they’re not allowed to bring it into the plane.

I don't like unsavvy air travelers either, but this ain't it. Replies have called him out on it, but it's also on brand for the old school coach who verbally rips his players new ones during games.

And yes, this is the stuff we bitch about in the off-season.

He should be on BlueSky instead, or at least in addition to. Love that Luke Bonner will post about anything and everything on BlueSky.

And I totally agree with the person who said they should be charging $ for carry-ons, not checked bags.

That's an easy response.. did someone say "your teams DON'T lay it on the line for you anymore, all you do is complain and your teams stink now".. would like to know how he responds to that? Maybe he thinks about it, and then retires.

I love this response tagging in Bamford. Uh, dude, Ryan has been pretending his account doesn't work for well over a year. He's not gonna reengage on something like this.
