KAEO Junjie Wang

Post by MikeUMA » Fri May 08, 2026 10:47 am

Starting a dedicated thread for our latest signee. He's been getting some talk recently in the Transfer Portal thread
viewtopic.php?t=17485

Pretty sure this is the first Asian player UMMBB has ever had. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that.

At U San Fran, Junjie (who apparently also goes by Barry), played for coach Chris Gerlufsen. Chris spent some of his childhood years around here, as his dad Ron was our head coach in the mid 80s.

Junjie also visited Indiana prior to signing with us

Some highlights from China national team play

I've seen different things about how many years he may have left, one or two. UM's release about his signing did not clarify.

Hailing from Red China, "Barry" should feel right at home here in progressive Happy Valley:
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Another "we shall see"... but I'm hopeful here due to his time played and general production at the University of Bill Russell. He played a solid amount of minutes, so hopefully he can contribute from the jump.

At USF, he attempted more 3s than 2s. Is that going to be a point of contention with Frank considering he's a pretty big dude?

Should be a very productive player here considering that the WCC is a better conference than the MAC.

Take a listen to the newest Just Being Frank. He talks about "Barry" and how he was used at both USF and on the China national team.

Thanks. I skipped around a bit, but saw him talk about "Barry" at least. Frank is absolutely a great interview and like his thinking on this. Of course, Mike Tyson's wisest words (probably wiser than anything I've ever said) will probably come into play here but the plan sounds good.

No worries Plano - we have the highest paid coach in the conference...
