Wonder if a win over BC ; make it to the Garden; beat Providence and lose in championship might also be a path ; as long as the champion isn’t outside HE top 4.

Yep, the AD made another bad hire. I hear he personally hired the student intern who was in charge of the lights.Sheck wrote: Sun Mar 01, 2026 1:04 am Really nice shootout win but not right that the lights got turned off in OT when UConn had a 2 on 1 scoring chance. Someone needs to get fired over that. Probably the AD.

He’ll probably give him an extension
Re: 2025-26 Season
I didn't watch the game. What happened after that lights off play went dead? Faceoff and carry on? Legit feel bad for UConn that they had that scoring chance taken away from them because of a really bad mistake on building operations' part.

Re: 2025-26 Season
I've watched the replay 5 times. While UConn had a legit opportunity, it was not a clear cut 2 on 1 as most of the complainers have stated. #17 for us was going to catch up the guy carrying the puck and #23 had the other guy covered.

^ No time added to the clock, nothing.
Maybe I missed it but, I did not see their coach questioning anything at the time either.

Fun game, fun atmosphere - the Mullins is really amazing for hockey and bball when people show up.

It really sucks. If that happened the other way, we’d all be livid-or at least I would be livid.
At the very least, I think UMass should be banned from in building light show goal celebrations moving forward until given the OK by an on ice official.
Edit: here’s the play for anyone who missed it.

This was huge in the standings. Who knows if UConn scores or not if the lights don’t flash, but there’s a very real possibility the 4 vs 5 games happens in Amherst instead of Orono because of this, and quite frankly that sucks.

UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student.

Plus it cost UConn a spot in the NPI which could hurt their NCAA chances as they have been the last team in right now if they had won the game

Was coming back from Boston listening on the radio. Brock shouted to Donnie when UConn grabbed it in the D zone after the Hrabel save "they have to blow it dead" and from what I watched above, played went several seconds too long.
And it won't happen again for now:

Yep... Lightgate continues to spread, and still crickets out of the Department about it... almost like it didn't happen.
What that said, I've always hated those types of light shows. Be it at a hockey game after a goal, or at Fenway after a home run/win. Just awful. With the Hockey East decision to ban this for the rest of the year (and a possible NCAA decision on it in the offseason), we might have to actually put this in the positive category of Ryan's tenure here at UMass.

Re: 2025-26 Season
Massive game tonight. Obviously it is BC and you always want to smack them.. but this has major HE Tournament and NPI ramifications.
HE Tournament related:
Currently in 4th place (37 points) behind PC, BC and UConn - 2 points behind BC, 1 point behind UConn, so a regulation win would leapfrog BC... UConn is at UNH tonight, so we could be 2nd or 3rd depending on their result. Of course OT wins and ties change the math, and I'm too lazy to do all of that.
Also of note - Maine is at 36 points, BU at 36, and Northeastern at 32. So we need to take care of business to not only try to move up, but to ensure we don't drop in the standings ahead of tournament seeding.
-Saturday games are as follows:
UConn at Providence NESN 4:00 ET
Boston University at UMass Lowell NESN+ 6:00 ET
Massachusetts at New Hampshire 7:00 ET
Maine at Vermont 7:00 ET
Northeastern at Boston College NESN 7:00 ET
NPI related:
In a vacuum, beating BC tonight would move us back to 18. That, I think, still gives us a very slight chance at an at-large bid. At this point, there is absolutely no room for error. Need to win out at least until the HE Championship game and have a lot of other games go our way.
-A regulation win would also really hurt BC, dropping them from 13 to 15. Again, that's in a vacuum.
***Please correct me if I'm wrong with any of this.

Re: 2025-26 Season
Are NCAA selections made prior to or after conference tournaments? I have heard both. It seems wrong to do it before conference tournaments, but this whole NPI business seems flawed.
