Game 29, 2025-26: at Ball State (2/24)
Re: Game 29, 2025-26: at Ball State (2/24)
Don’t forget, UMass lost 29 in a row in the early 80’s. One of the teams was University of Hartford.

Of course. Bball right now is still much better than some of those 80s teams. With that said, this is still bad. Change/s at the top of the Department need to be made.

It wasn’t till the late 80’s that UMass bought in an unknown named John Calipari. UMass was in the Eastern. 8 back then . Highly competitive league. Wonder if we can ever repeat and find another up and comer.

Can't find any post game presser, but on the radio interview was there any indication why the bench saw so much time? Rare to see Brown & Clerc in so early. Not saying they dont deserve the time but why the change? What was the reason for the 2nd half collapse in Frank's opinion?

Kimani Young! Hurley was mediocre at URI. Suddenly he's a genius at UConn, granted with a huge war chest, top tier league and school name recognition. I believe Young has a lot to do with their success.

Under Leaman with Julius Erving, UMass lost go both AIC and Springfield College.kd68 wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 9:40 am Don’t forget, UMass lost 29 in a row in the early 80’s. One of the teams was University of Hartford.
Under Lappas UMass lost to Lafayette and Central CT…twice.

Of course, he needs to go. I'm just talking about what I see on the court and hear in interviews with Frank. I'd love for both of them to be gone today.InnervisionsUMASS wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 8:25 amCounter-point: It has been our AD that has caused all of this, for Basketball and nearly all of Athletics.Juice Stand wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 6:38 am ... and has managed to suck all the joy out of UMass basketball. Whatever he says about his players, he's really saying about himself. Losing is one thing, this however is just completely joyless misery. Nothing to enjoy, nothing to be proud of, nothing to look forward to with this guy.
Could have been at the time, but Green Bay has actually been decent this year and is at 212 KenPom (we're at 200). The larger point is that Frank Martin is at fault for the 2 worst losses in the KenPom era, and they both happened this season. Brutal.MakeMullinsGreatAgain wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 9:03 am I'm probably wrong, as it seems like he actually took some time to research, but wasn't Green Bay worse? I could have sworn they were in the 330 range when we lost to them earlier this year?
Floyd, you know the answer to this. He coaches on vibes. No feel for the game whatsoever. His radio interview was more of the same (we don't defend, bla bla bla), he praised Danny Carbuccia, ripped Placide for playing hero ball when Frank really should have called a TO, and insinuated that DHS is either faking an injury or not tough enough to play through one.Floyd wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 10:17 am Can't find any post game presser, but on the radio interview was there any indication why the bench saw so much time? ^ surprising. DHS is his guy. I was really surprised K'Jei wasn't in in the OT.

What? Hurley gave URI a huge boost that they have not managed to match since.rt63 wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 10:22 am Kimani Young! Hurley was mediocre at URI. Lets face it, Carbuccia is Frank pet. Praises him every game despite the fact he cannot shoot or play defense. Placide was miraculous - got us into overtime and then made 2 3's (one and old fashioned one and then a deep 3 from corner) to put us up one.The fact that Frank is calling him out for the last play is ridiculous. Should have taken time as he failed to do in Buffalo game with the play right in front of him. I do not think he has once praised Bettiol all season despite the nearly double double every game.
Placide 5-9 from field 3-5 from 3 5-6 from line 6 rebounds 0 turnovers

Conversely, Banks was awful 3-18 on 2 pointers and 2-12 from 3.vanmeter wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 12:32 pm Lets face it, Carbuccia is Frank pet. Bitterly disappointing. Everyone clearly wants a change. Feel like we are cursed chasing the ghost of success. Another potential change looming.....again. just never get it right
Re: Game 29, 2025-26: at Ball State (2/24)
If this is a reference to the Cal days, I disagree. Of course nobody would balk at that happening; but most are just asking for something that resembles consistently competitive.bunkerhill87 wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 12:52 pm Bitterly disappointing. To me, that is something that falls in the 18-24 wins every year and in the conversation for conference titles more often than not. That SHOULD NOT be asking for that much but right now that is an astronomical ask it seems. That is not as easy as it used to be with NIL and no transfer rules, but a decent head coach at a good school like UMass should be able to pull that out every year.
Here is where we are: Bamford does not how to pick his nose let alone a head coach; and Frank is a fucking lunatic, and the game has passed him by.... The end

Yup, I'm not chasing the Cal days. I view that time as a unicorn. Just competitive, entertaining basketball, and in the mix for conference titles. We're a well resourced program relative to our conference peers and the results don't match the resources.eldonabe wrote: Wed Feb 25, 2026 1:04 pmIf this is a reference to the Cal days, I disagree.
