Also why did he take Clerc out when we are up one and Ball State has the ball. Naturally they miss but we lose the rebound.

In 53 years of following UMass since I arrived in the Fall of 72, I have never been as upset as I am now!
Also arrived in Fall '72, graduated '76, FYI. No idea why Frank was extended.

LOL, that's good stuff.

I think the honorable thing for Frank to do is resign tomorrow. The posts herein explain the errors. No Parker, blame Pacade,no timeout,no defense.Metrics said something like when we were up by 18 that we had something like 98.6 chance to win. Finally he takes out Luka and Wimberly. But its too late. Coaching at its worse. Takes no responsibility for being out coached. No player would want to come back next year.
Its obvious what needs be done.

From the "you can't make this stuff up" file...
  • K'Jei Parker hit a FG to put UMass ahead, 53-35, with 12:12 remaining
  • UMass proceeded to give up a 26-5 run, with only 1 FG in that span (2-pointer by Marcus Banks at the 7:50 remaining mark.) In that same span, UMass missed 13 FGs and turned it over 5 times. The 1 of 14 stretch = .071
  • UM's next field goal came on Isaiah Placide's three with :25 remaining

I didn’t realize he did not call a timeout when we got trapped at the end of the game. I was upset last night, still upset this morning when we blew an 18 point lead in 7 minutes. We have lost 5 in a row and all 4 of our overtime games. Bamford and Martin have to go whatever it takes.

That would be cool. There is a 0% chance that happens.

What else is there to say at this point. Not calling a timeout with plenty of time left on the clock when Placide was bottled up and right in front of their bench, and then roasting him in the postgame interview on the radio saying he was "trying to be a hero" is completely classless.

Frank Martin is the exact opposite of everything he preaches. He's a classless coward, who's constantly "in his feelings" and has managed to suck all the joy out of UMass basketball. Whatever he says about his players, he's really saying about himself. Losing is one thing, this however is just completely joyless misery. Nothing to enjoy, nothing to be proud of, nothing to look forward to with this guy.

We are not stuck with Martin. If he cant get the team into MAC tournament he will be canned and probably should even if we get into tourny and lose to Miami or Akron. I think the game has passed him by. We have a roster model to follow right in our conference (Miami) so find a coach who will do something similar. It should be easy to recruit good players from the midwest who are just short of Big Ten material or our Big Ten bench sitters.

Hire the right guy and we are dancing in 2028

I have no issue with yelling at players behind closed doors in practice, but Martin makes an ass of himself on a regular basis when he does it in games. Year one he screams.."Wildens, You are a dumb motherfucker" He should have been canned right there. I would can him for conduct unbecoming and tell him he aint getting paid another cent.

Counter-point: It has been our AD that has caused all of this, for Basketball and nearly all of Athletics.

Sidelines - Ball State🐦 @SSN_BallState 9h

... Thanks for the gift!!!! Unless you were sitting behind umasss bench you didnt see this. But with about 2 minutes left in the game all your staff threw their hands at the court and your team and barely coached the rest of the game and overtime.. It was talked about by the group of both bsu and a few umass fans sitting near me... Just not a good look

Updated worst losses in UMass Kenpom era history:

310 - at Saint Louis 1/25/17
312 - Howard 11/16/18
315 - at Quinnipiac 11/29/17
316 - at Northern Illinois 1/17/26
325 - at Ball State 2/24/26
I'm probably wrong, as it seems like he actually took some time to research, but wasn't Green Bay worse? I could have sworn they were in the 330 range when we lost to them earlier this year?
