I was at the final 4 with my brother who was a Syracuse fan (also a final 4 team). Great time. Glad we went.

I was at Elite 8 the year before when it was in New Jersey, Umass was playing Oklahoma State, had Big Country. Calipari sat Williams out for that game. Was it Georgetown they beat in Atlanta? Those were exciting days.

I was that one also. It was Georgetown with Iverson.

"Most" members of that team expected to return. Similar celebrations in the past have indeed drawn a bunch of those alums back. Marcus Camby has been great about coming back, but I think the White Lion Brewing location in Amherst (that he had a stake in) closed a few months ago. (There's still one in Springfield.)

Calipari almost certainly won't be there in person. Arkansas has a home game that same afternoon.
White Lion Brewery closed in Amherst last spring. It was never busy and had sporadic hours and the Camby connect was never a big enough draw to the younger crowd. Now McMurphy's Uptown Tavern is moving into that spot. The current building home to McMurphy's Uptown Tavern located across the street is being demolished soon. The McMurphy's team have been renovation the new location the past few weeks. They plan to open in the new location in the spring.

The 1992 team is my all-time favorite. I hope that sometime in the future UMass will celebrate that team that started the Calipari run of NCAA tournaments.

Mine too! That run to the Sweet 16 was memorable!
Harper’s 3!!!!
I was in Oklahoma City on personal business. I went to a sports bar to catch the UMass-Syracuse game. I asked the bartender to put the UMass game on. At first it was ‘UMass who?’ But by the time the game was over….everyone there was like, Go UMass!

I've posted this memory before:
When we left the the Georgia Dome after the trouncing of the Hoyas in the Elite Eight, there was a guy outside with maybe 100 "Georgetown Final Four" tees. He was trying to peddle them for whatever anyone would pay.
"Jack didn’t have any envy in him," Calipari said. "He was the greatest coach to ever coach here."

Lots of stories re Atlanta trip and our Georgetown W.
Sat on the floor, albeit close seats to court were still a bit back re the configuration.
Joe Gibbs and his family were sitting on my right side.

MikeUMA wrote: Wed Jan 21, 2026 11:41 am Kinda sad to admit that I'm "meh" about this. I'm a little fatigued about the recognition of that year, probably compounded by the fact that it's the last time we won a conference tournament title and an NCAA Tournament game.

Also, it feels like we "just" gave these guys a big celebration, but that was coming up on five years ago now, with the induction of that team into the UMass Athletic Hall of Fame, in September 2021.

I might save up some enthusiasm for the Lightning in a Bottle documentary.
I'm considering coming in from FL.
Could make a MIKE MEH sign.

The old Amherst Brewing spot right? That building has been like revolving door for businesses over the years. Still can’t believe McMurphy’s is moving even if it is only across the street. So many great memories from that place and Barsie’s in the early 2000s for me.

The owner of the building is an asshat. He is also the one knocking down the building McMurphy's ("Timeout" for my generation) down. He owns almost all of the new construction. He is building across from the Hangar where Rafters used to be, too.
