Plan for 2026 and beyond
Re: Plan for 2026 and beyond
Maybe Leo “takes all of Frank’s shit in stride” is because he can’t understand him. Another reason we should recruit more foreign born players!

I would hope our higher ups use what could be a basketball disaster to fire Bamford and Martin

how big are the buyouts for those two? I imagine they're pretty big, and I don't see it happening strictly for that reason.
Re: Plan for 2026 and beyond
Unlikely, but UMass should be trying to negotiate the buyout terms on both contracts.Juice Stand wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:06 am how big are the buyouts for those two? I imagine they're pretty big, and I don't see it happening strictly for that reason.
If you got Frank to agree to take $1M a year and allow him to coach somewhere else he wouldn’t lose much money or he could choose to do nothing and retire while still taking in millions. UMass could then hire someone else and pay them $1M a year and still save about $400k a year.

^ You definitely have to be creative and find ways to get out of it without losing too much, but the trick here is that you need to replace the AD as well. Tough to do both at the same time, although I assume Thorr would be a good option for navigating that negotiation process.

I'm still hoping that is exactly what they did with Bamford and the Thorr hire. We shall see, but the first step before any change with the Basketball program has to be at the top of the Athletic Department.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

If Ryan and Frank were fired, I would like to see Thorr named AD and have him led the search for a BB coach.Juice Stand wrote: Wed Jan 07, 2026 8:23 am ^ You definitely have to be creative and find ways to get out of it without losing too much, but the trick here is that you need to replace the AD as well.
