There's one who's still using the COVID season bonus. True sickos might know who that is.
18, wow! Guessing it's Javon Garcia with the extra Covid year. What's the "W" for many entires in that table mean?

The wiki software that I'm using does that on its own.
The W is Wikipedia's icon. It shows up when I link to a Wikipedia source.
The globe icon shows up when I link to any other external source.

outstanding work!!

Just a quick glance, but of the 18 former players listed, I close to half, if not more are averaging double figures - and not just 10.5 PPG either - I'm talking 12-13+ - yes early sample size but pretty impressive.

Maybe a good time to revisit this. Here are a few notable players with their current stats:

Curry: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pl ... rry-1.html Having a great year but still can't shoot from 3.
Robert Davis: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pl ... -jr-1.html Never developed the 3 pointer as advertised
Gapare: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pl ... are-1.html A total bust at every stop.
Nate G: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pl ... mba-1.html I thought he would be better than this.
Rivera: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pl ... era-1.html Some better, some worse. 50% from 3 - he is 1 for 2 on the year.
Worthy: https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/pl ... thy-1.html The shocker of the group. I wish he did this here.

likely best among former players: Javohn Garcia: FG% above 49, with 44% on 3s and 84.4% on FTs. Assist/TO=3.33

Check out the season Lewis Walker is having at NC A&T, teammate with Amadou Doumbia

Understand that portal transferring is prevalent everywhere....but there are many players that do stay at the same school for 3+ years....we even have a few like DHS and Ndjigue

That said, i believe Frank’s personality runs off a lot of quality players.

Imagine this roster:
C - Leo, Abdelgowad
PF - DHS, Rivera
SF - Walker, Ndjigue
SG - Banks, Davis
PG - Curry, Thompson

I realize that we acquired Leo, Abdelgowad, DHS, Rivera and Banks through the portal...so it taketh and it giveth....but when you get guys to your school and it’s obvious they can be difference makers we have to do a better job of retaining them...

I find it hard to believe that Southern, UAB, NC A&T, Old Dominion and Stephen F. Austin all have the NIL resources to lure good players away from UMass. Oklahoma State is another story. That 10 man roster should win the A10 and dominate the MAC.

All due respect to the guys that have left, and I appreciate their contributions, but I'm just fine with no longer having Abdelgowad, Rivera, and Robert Davis. Malek wasn't a good fit, Rivera is too poor a shooter and decision-maker to make up for his heart and hustle, and Davis is a volume scorer, not an efficient one.

With that said, yeah, I'd love to have Keon Thompson or Marqui Worthy back. I thought Keon was outstanding and a great fit for Frank's style, and Marqui showed flashes last year and is clearly blossoming as a junior.

I agree with both of these points. Well said.

Rivera is a bigger, stronger Ndjigue. He’s an absolute mason as a shooter but he does everything else well and he plays his ass off like Ndjigue. He’s shooting over 52% for UAB so he obviously understands his role is to score at the rim.
I agree Malek never seemed comfortable here but I would contend that was a Frank issue. He’s averaging nearly a double double in just under 17 minutes a night for Southern while shooting 59%. And their non conference schedule is tougher than ours has been so it’s decent competition.
Agree on Davis, he’s a gunner....shoots low percentages...needs volume to be effective and with the roster I laid out he would never get volume.
I didn’t mention Worthy but I have been following him at UC Riverside, having a heckuva start for them, happy for him, he can play.

I like your analysis. I can easily live without Malek and Davis. Rivera did hustle, but had an abysmal BB IQ. He almost cost us the Fordham game and followed that up (can't remember who we played) by taking a contested shot at the rim with 25 seconds left and us up by 2 or 3 points instead of holding the ball. Couple that with his outside and free throw shooting and I'm OK with losing him. I liked Keon and he would do well on this team. I'm glad to see Worthy doing so well. I liked him but too often it would be 2 good plays followed by 2 bad plays. Maybe he just had to mature.

Was a fan of them both. Both seemed like team guys too

I think they both got lost in the NIL a Wild West.
