Re: Head Coach Search 2024
Living here in Mooresville NC we watch the Charlotte news at 6 PM. On the sports they introduced Bill Belichec as the new coach of NC FB. The NIL money used to be 4 MIL and now it is going to 20 MIL How do you compete with that?

Yes. That was why I said Tre Bell was a coup. My point is pretty straightforward that these guys are good hires no matter where they got hired; not just that are good for UMass or UMass got them. Similar to the idea that the new HC is not just a good hire because of the UMass context.dennisdent wrote: Thu Dec 12, 2024 7:12 pmminutefanjsf wrote: Thu Dec 12, 2024 6:16 pmNot just for UMass. What a stupid response to my comment??? Have you ever heard of any of these hires before today? Have you seen them coach? My comment was from people that actually know these hires and how they will fit for UMass. "Not just for UMass." Who the fuck else are they going to work for at UMass.![]()

Big Money equals Large and well healed alums and friends which we have neither!

Re: Head Coach Search 2024
Bob Chesney has done so well at James Madison that he is now the new coach at UCLA
Hiring him when he was at Holy Cross was a no brainer... but no, we were apparently too good for a Holy Cross HC? LOL

Add this to the list of Bamford's failings -
Even if you catch lightning in a bottle and hire a great head coach (first HC; then JMU), you, programmatically, have to start planning for when they would leave, and thusly to keep the pipeline going.
Holy Cross went from 7-4 (including 2 FBS losses) in 2023 with Chesney, to 6-6 in 2024 and 3-9 this past year. So, early read is they are failing in this regard.
JMU I don't care enough to look back into their history but I think they've done better with replacing coaches.
But point is, Bamford is unqualified to bring in "a" coach, must less the several consecutive ones that would be required to make the program decent. Job is an order of magnitude too difficult for him.

JMU's previous coach was Curt Cignetti, who is currently the HC at ranked #2 undefeated Indiana.mew3782 wrote: Mon Dec 01, 2025 3:26 pm Add this to the list of Bamford's failings -

Re: Head Coach Search 2024
All the best players followed Cignetti or moved on. It’s not like Cheney adopted Cignetti’s old roster (especially now where players don’t have to sit out a year), he worked hard to adapt into a new program and build, and now in his second season he’s 11-1

Those are 2 impressive hires back to back for a school like JMU. Imagine where we'd be!!
