Re: Portal MBB 2025
I would not miss either of them if they leave.

Re: Portal MBB 2025
I agree with everything you said about the players. I'm just willing to give a little more time for development, and also seeing what they could do moving to the MAC. I'm reminded of Dyondre Dominguez, who was useless and totally out of place for two years, then blossomed in his 3rd to become an important piece on a team that was making some noise until they lost their star PG to injury. With Akil gone, maybe Foster makes that 3rd year jump, maybe not, or maybe he transfers.NilesGold wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 2:42 pmI have very little confidence in anything this staff does, but if we can’t get any better than Watson and Foster than we really are cooked. There was minimal development throughout the season and they’re both sophomores… they hardly cracked the rotation on one of the worst UMass teams in the last 20 years.Juice Stand wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 10:13 am What level of confidence do you have that we'll be able to recruit at a higher level than those two guys? I tend to want to give guys a chance to develop, even if they were underwhelming, and I believe in building continuity. I'm just not sure we'll find anyone better than those two. VCU and ASU thought they were good enough, I'm willing to give them a chance.

Marqui Worthy reported to be in the portal now
Re: Portal MBB 2025
Mass Collective indicating something is happening imminently.
My guess is that they have a portL commitment from Gavin Walsh.

Not surprised by Marqui moving on. California kid that stuck with it for a second year and showed some improvement. He did good things for this squad and gave plenty of hustle. Best of luck to him going forward.

I wonder if he tries to play with his brother, Tarik, who just finished his freshman season at Marist. They're from the area in NY State.Juice Stand wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 10:56 am ^Ha ha, and just like that...Akil Watson has entered the portal: https://twitter.com/acsamaha/status/1907096990514585892
Re: Portal MBB 2025
I like Worthy and thought he'd be back. Bummer...
Malek and Akil were not as productive as I hoped. I think Akil should go play with his brother at Marist. They were pretty good last year. I'd be surprised if Malek sticks around.
If Gavin Walsh is the guy from Binghamton, mentioned above, he has nice numbers, was a starter. Interesting...
Just listened to Being Frank, it was pretty informative.

Re: Portal MBB 2025
Worthy improved, yes, but…hopefully we all do. To his credit, he was one of the few guys who showed stones down the stretch and showed me something with his taking it to the hoop. But he still made really bad decisions and couldn’t shoot outside of 10 feet. That said, if we can trade his portal announcement for Rivera or Abdelgowad’s, PLEASE let’s do so.
Re: Portal MBB 2025
There should at least be a small plaque somewhere recognizing Worthy's 3-pointer at the end of regulation in the Fordham game to send it to overtime. Most likely his biggest contribution. Maybe the commitment of Brown influenced his decision.

Starting to doubt my guess, maybe it's DHS staying and signing an NIL deal?NilesGold wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 3:59 pm Mass Collective indicating something is happening imminently.

He was also nails for us in the home win over Dayton. Made some absolutely clutch plays.69MG wrote: Tue Apr 01, 2025 11:21 pm There should at least be a small plaque somewhere recognizing Worthy's 3-pointer at the end of regulation in the Fordham game to send it to overtime. Re: Portal MBB 2025
I salute Worthy for his exceptional effort. That said, I do no want a guard who is a horrific 3 pt shooter on the team.
