69, I know that last comment was just out of frustration (me included) for what has transpired, but
there are a lot of Umass Student Athletes working just as hard as the "Big Three" kids, right now,
for their respective teams and deserve our attention and support....just sayin...

You are right. I should say that I have been paying attention to both lacrosse teams, tennis, baseball and softball and we have some pretty strong teams. I guess I was more referring to the fact that those other seasons have now ended, and hockey took us the farthest.

Crazy…with all the talk about Hockey East getting 6 teams in, after round 2 they stand 5-5, after going 4-2 in the first round, with only one team advancing to the FF.

BiG got 4 teams in and after going 1-3 in round one, they are 2-3 with one team advancing go the Lou.

ECAC got 2 and went 1-2.

CCHA and AHA were each 0-1.

But the best of all, NCHC, got two teams in and stand 4-0 with both Denver and Western Michigan going to St. Louis.

The official call was “Hitting from behind”. That also falls into the category for Game Misconduct, as well as “hitting the head” , “Intent to injure.” and others that don’t involve on the ice activity.

There were games this year where players had two (2) or more penalties and didn’t get a Game Misconduct.

Not sure then. That seemed to be how the recap of the game described the situation.

My main issue with the penalty is that it allows the referees to decide the game instead of the players. It still bothers me that the W. Michigan coach was complaining about getting a penalty call on UMass because he realized they couldn’t beat UMass straight up as UMass dominated for the first 35 minutes until the call. Hope W Michigan gets it ass handed to them by Denver!

Agree with you here on the penalty call. It’s crazy how replay has taken over all of sports. I can’t keep up with all of the new rules and coach’s challenges. One of the negatives of the bball tourney is all of the reviews, especially in the last 2 minutes. But it also seemed like a lot of reviews in the hockey tourney too. The play was called a 2 min penalty on the ice. Didn’t seem like enough evidence to upgrade it to 5. The 5:00 major in playoff hockey is always a game changer. The timing was also worst case scenario. Gave them time to score end of period and to give them momentum into 3rd and some fresh ice for 2 more minutes to score the winner.

It was crazy they gave us a 5:00 pp right after. Just never see that, so we can’t complain that much about the refs, but the momentum and game completely swung on that review.

I think Denver is happy not play us because we have had some success against them during their run of 6 frozen fours in 9years. It’s apparent that they like playing BC!

The call on the ice was a minor penalty, but the call was not made by the referee who was closest to the play and had the best view of the play. Yet, when the two (2) referees went to the video, he changed his mind from NO Penalty to a Major Penalty and added on a GAME MISCONDUCT! A call of a Major Penalty can be made without a Game Misconduct. It was just so unfortunate that the NCAA placed a referee who has no backbone to stick with the call they made in live action that was right in front of them!!!

It was automatic, but they changed the rule after the ‘21-‘22 season.

It’s really hard to win when you only score 1 goal. UMass missed about four wide open nets. The inability to capitalize on a lot of those chances in the first half of the game is the reason UMass is at home right now.
