Looks like Kent State will step up to retain Senderoff.

That's great. In the interest of having the MAC rebuild its rankings as a decent mid major, the more quality coaches staying in the league the better. Senderoff has been at Kent St for 14 years, that's wild. I was wondering why he would make the move from Kent St (a perennial top-4 MAC team) to Fordham (perennial A10 cellar dwellar), and the only thing I could come up with was money. Good on Kent St for doing what they needed to do to keep their guy.

Maybe Norlander was a bit early or off with his take, he took it down, but Akron news is reporting on Senderoff's extension.

I don’t know. Does it matter really? The MAC isn’t getting more than one school into the tourney each year. If the other schools suck and we make it, I mean…probably better than there being multiple good schools since 2 schools won’t ever make it (for the most part) no?

May not matter to you, but he turned down a job in the A10 to stay at Kent State and the MAC. Having good programs attract better competition and fun games. Keeping good coaches at good programs matters and agree with Juice Stand. This is great news that MAC programs can retain good coaches over programs in the A10.

Senderoff is a former Fordham assistant and has NY roots, but by now he likely has substantial Kent roots

Right on, Steve. I know that both the A10 and MAC are 1-bid leagues. My statement about the rankings was more about reputation than autobids.
Maybe the A10 gets a second bid now and again, but both are largely 1-bid leagues at this point. Going forward in the MAC, retaining their top coaches and building quality programs at the top of the league is good. It means the games are higher quality and more fun. The bottom of the league is still awful (no disrespect, Coach Barbee), but the top of the league is quality, competitive basketball. And when I heard that Senderoff was leaving I thought the MAC is going to get worse, not better. Now that he's staying, it means the top will remain quality.

Thanks Juice Stand. Some additional details from X.
Amending for clarity: Kent St. coach Rob Senderoff is signing a six-year deal to stay on w/ the Golden Flashes. KSU is going to make him one of the top-three coaches in salary *in the MAC* and a massive commitment in NIL+rev share has been promised for the MBB program as a result

Guess this is where I disagree. Think the A10 has a much better shot of not being a one bid league. In think the MAC is only a one bid league.

When I look at Senderoff coaching at Kent State, think immediately of Schmidt at Saint Bonaventure.

With current portal rules A-10 will be lucky to get more than 1 team in yearly over the next five years.

With the current landscape , conference affiliation doesn’t matter so much for UMass in basketball ! Say are in Big East . How do you compete NIL with those schools or in the ACC ! Our we going to out bid Duke , UNC etc ! We’d never have a chance ! May have a chance to be atop the MaC someday !
