NCAA Tournament
NCAA Tournament
The selections for this tournament is a joke. 14 SEC teams in- Texas a 239 ranked OOC 15 total losses 6-12 in league.
Last SEC team to win championship 2012.
Last Big 10 to win championship (8 bids) Michigan State in 2000. System is rigged.

Teams with UMass connections:
Arkansas
St. John’s
Creighton
Maryland
Am I missing anything any teams?
We could have a Cal-Pitino match-up in the 2nd round.

McNeese State has former Minuteman Javohn Garcia. He's their leading scorer, and was the Southland Conference POY and Tourney MVP.

And if you want to go full sicko: Louisville (Pat Kelsey)
That makes our interested schedule (Eastern times):
Thursday
Louisville/Creighton 12:15
McNeese ~3:15
Arkansas 7:10
St. John's ~9:45
Friday
Maryland ~4:35

The NCAA is getting closer to fracturing between the bigs and everyone else. Power Four took almost half the bids.vanmeter wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 6:35 pm The selections for this tournament is a joke.
System is rigged.
SEC: 14 bids (of 16 members), NCAA Tournament record
Big Ten: 8 bids
Big 12: 7 bids
Big East: 5 bids
ACC: 4 bids
MWC: 4 bids
WCC: 2 bids
Remaining 24 conferences: 1 bid each

Yeah, for the first time in my life I have little interest in this. Probably won't watch much. Big college athletics is a total mess.vanmeter wrote: Sun Mar 16, 2025 6:35 pm The selections for this tournament is a joke. 14 SEC teams in- Texas a 239 ranked OOC 15 total losses 6-12 in league.

Re: NCAA Tournament
The NIT is basically the A10 tournament. SLU, St Joes, Dayton, Mason, Loyola Chi, and St Bonaventure are in the field. The MAC got Kent St in, matched up against St Bonaventure.
Other NIT games of interest: Matt Cross' SMU team is a 1-seed, Ronnie DeGray (remember him?) and Wichita St face OK St, and Dyondre Dominguez and Arkansas St are a 3-seed, matched up with St Louis.

Re: NCAA Tournament
Posted this in the Cal thread, but probably makes more sense here:
Cal and Pitino both in Providence, with the possibility of meeting each other in the 2nd round, with Lappas doing TV color commentary and a former UMass player on the court. HA!

Re: NCAA Tournament
Same as last year. The Net rankings are horseshit because the formula does not use a rate of diminishing returns in the results of games. The SEC uses this to its advantage by crushing and humiliating weaker opponents in the non conference schedule thus boosting up each of their ratings so when they get to conference play they all help each other along. Texas should not be in with 19-15 and 6-12 and a low 80s ranking in the better RPI. Oklahoma is also in this camp. Boise State belongs in and probably SMU (Matt Cross and Josh Cohen you both shoulda stayed)

Agreed, the best 3 teams in the MW right now are UNM, Colorado State, and Boise State. Utah State and San Diego St will make the Mountain West look worse than they really are.stevemaz wrote: Mon Mar 17, 2025 9:14 am Boise State belongs in and probably SMU (Matt Cross and Josh Cohen you both shoulda stayed)
On the selections, they put way too much emphasis on November and December.
GW is in the new tournament called College Basketball Crown. Interesting concept, 1 week long in 1 location (Vegas) with 16 teams. Boise State opted for this one over the NIT because this tourney is paying for expenses incurred by the teams and the players apparently get more $.
Re: NCAA Tournament
I have less interest this year than any year I can remember. I may not even bother filling out bracket - and I will bet on anything.
NIL has ruined college basketball and it did not have to if they used their fucking heads out of the gate; but the horse is out of the barn.

Note to all Umass fans (and any other College Basketball fan for that matter) there is ZERO school history or alumni connection to this sport any longer. "Blue Bloods" are no longer a thing either.
This kind of thins may be the only chance there is to stop the insanity. If the real blue bloods of college basketball start losing more of these major recruiting battles to the likes of the BYU's of the world over money, THAT may actually force some changes. Suddenly they are not above the law - (so to speak) and they are not gonna like that.
Re: NCAA Tournament
Crown tournament is more crap of NCAA Bball being all about $$. Almost all teams in there are P4/5 teams with lousy records. And I heard there's more $ in that than in the NIT. (Not sure about this)Plano Minuteman wrote: Mon Mar 17, 2025 10:37 amAgreed, the best 3 teams in the MW right now are UNM, Colorado State, and Boise State. A10 has 8 teams in post-season vs. MAC's 2. I suppose most only care about the NCAAT, but I think the NIT can be good, with much of it on ESPN/ESPN2 on days when the NCAA doesn't play.
