You should be. Even if you’re not going QB, the amount of trade power and extra picks you would have for future rebuilding when trading down from THE #1 PICK is a huge deal. The #1 pick holds a ton of power.PintOGuinness wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 4:10 pm Am I the only one who's not broken up about them not getting the first pick? Re: Jerod Mayo gone
The thing is you didn’t have to do anything and you get the first pick. Completely Broken up? No but frustrated that it was sitting right there. If you wanted to trade that pick, it’s way more valuable than the #4 pick. If Wolf is still gm, him and the new coach have got a lot of work to do this offseason.

Haha, yeah no one wants Brisette. I would have put him in in the second half of the bills game once we saw Milton tearing it up! Milton did his job to earn the #2 spot next year.Floyd wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 7:19 amGood one TruBlu. The fears around losing recruits and wanting continuity were definitely overweigh, but they were the reasons for hiring Bruiser. Have to remember also that Cal had never been a HC, had accomplished all that in 8 seasons, and Bruiser was his right hand man. Hiring Mayo had nothing to do with anything other than Kraft’s ego.eldonabe wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 4:01 pmQuann wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 1:48 pm
He did. Krafts were morons for letting him coach that game, they had already decided he was gone before yesterday so why let him screw up getting the #1 pick? What a stupid awful game yesterday. I blame the Krafts for this whole mess. Bob grew enamored with a guy that hadn't even ever been a defacto defensive coordinator never mind zero experience as a head coach prior to this year. To hire him last offseason to follow Belichick was so freaking stupid. I just hope they go through the process of interviewing this time around. I don't have a whole lot of faith with how the front office is currently constituted. They are woefully understaffed from the Belichick era. Bill liked to keep everything tight in house so he didn't feel like he had a need for a whole lot of extra administrative people to be involved. It worked for awhile when we had the GOAT qb but it's time to go back to the drawing board. Krafts need to open up their penny pinching wallets again.
Shades of Bruiser following Cal......
The logistics are very different, but the similarity is that each were hired for a job they were not yet ready to take on.
Bruiser did do OK his first two years, but he was not ready for the media onslaught and that distracted him as much as it frustrated him. Beyond that I just think it was unfair to put him in that position of following Cal. They needed a name coach in that spot who knew how to handle the attention right out of the gate. The team would very likely still have regressed, but Bruiser would probably be still coaching here if he was the "next guy" they hired after Cals replacement. He is really a great guy and smart basketball man.
The guy I feel the worst for is Lari Ketner (RIP). Bruiser was very stubborn about continuing what Cal started - meaning tough man to man defense - Lari was not strong at that. Had he played more zone or more matchup zone Ketner would have been an all American IMO. MtM got him into foul trouble a lot and out of rebounding position even more (it did not help that Basit was a fucking basket case and Bruiser did not know how to handle him either). After Roe and Ty Weeks, Lari was my favorite player from that era.

I know a lot of teams are stupid(see the Jets) but do you really think teams are willing to give up multiple draft picks to get a crack at either Ward or Sanders? I mean, we're not talking about Peyton Manning coming out of Tennessee in 97 here - neither Ward nor Sanders are even close to being a sure thing. Plus everyone knows if the Pats held the #1 pick they'd look to trade down, so that dilutes the value of the pick even more.inthescoop wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2025 10:08 pmYou should be. It only devalues if 1 teams wants to move up. If there are 2 or more... There is s huge benefit to having that leverage.PintOGuinness wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 12:45 pmI know a lot of teams are stupid(see the Jets) but do you really think teams are willing to give up multiple draft picks to get a crack at either Ward or Sanders? Yes, absolutely. Robert Griffin went for 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks at #2 overall. Jared Goff was traded for 2 firsts, 2 seconds, and 2 thirds. SF traded 3 first rounders to move up to #3 to get Trey Lance. Carolina traded 2 firsts and 2 seconds for Bryce Young. A lot of teams are desperate for a QB right now. More than usual. Building around a young QB with a low salary is huge.PintOGuinness wrote: ↑Tue Jan 07, 2025 12:45 pmI know a lot of teams are stupid(see the Jets) but do you really think teams are willing to give up multiple draft picks to get a crack at either Ward or Sanders? Absolutely. #1 pick always gets teams to do stupid stuff in terms of trades even if this draft class isn't highly rated. It was so bad winning that game.

Re: Jerod Mayo gone
They could have traded down twice and even three times and added 6-8 starters. it was a gaffe. That said, i think Buffalo was trying to lose so it was going to be hard to for Pats to lose that game.
Re: Jerod Mayo gone
McDermott absolutely loved screwing us. I would have done the same thing to a division rival if I was him.

Oh yeah, McDermott LOVED it. My father kept saying "so, McDermott still thinks Belichick is the coach huh? He's loving this..."
