I’ll be taking the kids up for our annual trip to the Bill. Sounds like a nice event before. We will try to stop by.
Re: Game 12, 2024-25: Northeastern (12/18)
Northeastern might be better than either CCSU or Lowell, so we better step up our game. Simple things like making free throws, rebounding and not turning the ball over. I don't think that is asking too much.
Re: Game 12, 2024-25: Northeastern (12/18)
Losing to CCSU, Lowell and Northeastern, all in the same season, should be grounds for automatic firing of the HC.

As the NET goes, Northeastern and CCSU are nearly side by side. NU 138, CCSU 134.

Every time I hear Northeastern hoops I think of Perry Moss. Kid was good

Re: Game 12, 2024-25: Northeastern (12/18)
Northeastern is 8-3. They beat Harvard by 22, beat CCSU by 18 and beat LaSalle by 14. I wish we had that resume.
They start a strange lineup as far as size is concerned. 3 guys at 6'5, 1 at 6'6 and 1 at 6'9. The reserves that play are between 6'3 and 6'8. I haven't watched them, so I really don't know what to expect. I would assume that their guards would try to post up our shorter guards, so we'll need our bigs to do some rim protection.

Thanks for the update on NU, 69.
I have not seen them this year. Sounds like this is going to be a tough game.

To me, losing to CCSU, U Lowell, and Northeastern at home while hosting U Boston in between would be just as bad as the Bell football team losing to Maine and URI at home

OFFSeason, I can vividly remember seeing him at the Cage when I was there and thinking, Wow this guy can play. Very strong too. Didn't realize at the time he was a local kid. Why didn't UMass get him?TheOFFSeason wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 6:25 amAmherst HS to Wilbraham Monson to Northeastern to 76ers…not many from WMass have done itFloyd wrote: Mon Dec 16, 2024 4:24 pm Every time I hear Northeastern hoops I think of Perry Moss. Couple other guys back then in the old Eastern 8 who were great and really stood out were Roy Hinson & John Battle at Rutgers, Sam Clancy at Pitt, and West Virginia had a guy too but can't recall his name. Crazy how long ago that was

Perry Moss 81-82 season. Coach Mac’s first year. It was a breath of fresh air after the Ray Wilson era. It was my first time seeing Donald Russell play. Moss and Russell battled it out. NU won but it was a game. A rare occurrence the two years prior.

I'm a little worried about NU's defense in this one. They're 75th nationally in PPG allowed at 66.5, and 91st in how Sports Reference rates D. Part of that speaks to some of the competition they've played early on, of course. The average NET of the teams they've played to date is 218. But since we've had multiple games in the 60s, and Diggins being in a funk, I'm concerned, especially if DHS is going to be out again (I'm not sure his status).
Common opponents, as 69MG mentioned earlier:
Harvard. NU won at home by 22, we won the away game by 8.
CCSU. NU played 'em in a MTE in New Brunswick, and won by 18. We lost to CCSU at home by 4.
Those comparisons don't bode well for us.
NU's last time out: they won 75-71 at Old Dominion. Robert Davis led ODU with 17 points but they're now 3-8 on the season and in the 300s in several categories, including NET at 353.
NU was picked 6th in the 14-team CAA this season. Hofstra, who got us earlier this season, was picked 4th.
Junior guard Masai Troutman was named 2nd Team. He's currently 3rd on NU in scoring at 12.6 ppg, and a 3pt threat at 42%, though he only puts up 2.7 average per game.
Scoring leader: Rashad King (6-6 198) at 17.5 ppg (5th in CAA), plus 6.7 rebs (8th) and 4.2 assists (2nd). Maybe Rivera gets him on D.
Boards leader: Harold Woods (6-5 194), 8.4 rpg (4th in CAA), plus 14.5 ppg. Maybe Ndjigue gets him?

Re: Game 12, 2024-25: Northeastern (12/18)
So they beat the bad teams on their schedule. UMass is a bad team with a NET ranking below their opponent average at 256. I have zero confidence in this team and expect another loss. NU 78, UMass 71. I'd love to be proven wrong.MikeUMA wrote: Tue Dec 17, 2024 12:13 pm I'm a little worried about NU's defense in this one.
