I know bammy cruises these boards...his ego has to do it. He know exactly what that comment means and knows what it could do....not only to him but another coach.

Him and his wife have loved UMass (maybe not so much right now but hopefully that passes) and been a huge part of this school for many years. Sometimes business gets ugly but let’s hope the emotions pass and bygones can bygones in the future.
The way UMass treated Don on the way out still bothers me. This school means (I hope it's still 'means' as opposed to 'meant') a lot to him and his family, and I'd like to think he means a lot to UMass.

I think back to the feud between Yogi Berra and George Steinbrenner. After everything he'd accomplished as/for the Yankees, "The Boss" fired him 16 games into the season after promising him the full year. George didn't even have the 'nads to fire him in person. He had Clyde King do it.

He vowed that as long as George owned the team, he would not set foot in Yankee Stadium...and he didn't. Yogi said on 60 Minutes that he never stopped rooting for the them but he kept his word. It wasn't until George went the Yogi Berra museum to apologize 14 years later that the feud the all was forgiven.

I'm hoping that Don Brown never stops rooting for UMass, but Ryan Bamford or Javier Reyes owe him an apology.
I agree with you. He was convinced to leave a good position at Arizona to come here and rebuild from scratch with a nearly impossible schedule. He never had a say in building the schedule like many coaches do, plus he didn't get to face many reoccurring opponents, which helps for scouting.

I feel like they made him captain of the life raft and kicked him off right before being rescued by the MAC. Not a good look.
I think there is more to the story than what has been publicized. A few people have stated that DB got a significantly higher buyout by firing in season rather than waiting until the end of the season. We haven’t heard anything from DB himself. I’m sure he isn’t happy to be out of a job and likely thinks he would have gotten the job done next year. We have no idea what he is telling the players. He could be telling them to finish the job even though he is not going to be here. He could also not retire and bring a bunch of players with him. The optics were horrific and compounded by the senior day crap.

It’s not especially cool to float things like that out there. People don’t need to like his performance as AD, but it’s pretty dirty to whisper about a person’s reputation when there is nothing provided otherwise.

Sure, but why does Ryan get to hire his successor?
Agree on both points! Most people love Don but wanted him gone awhile ago contrary to what alot of folks now say ! Yes , we don’t know all the facts yet ! And no ! Ryan shouldn’t pick next coach !

We caught up with a former UM DL who played for Jim Reid. He has a beach bar/eats here in Naples.
Told us he saw Donnie B here earlier this week.

He's not listed on the official staff roster, but apparently Don is helping with the Syracuse defense

I'm a Don Brown fan. Good Guy to get to know and Mrs. Brown is a riot to watch a game with. All that said, Brown wasn't successful as HC 2.0. Did Bamford put Don in a position w/sufficient resources to succeed? Hell No. That said, UMass is paying Don Brown $1.4 Million not to Coach football. So let's not shed too many tears for Don Brown.
