Greg Landry passes
detroitsportsnation.com reports that Greg has died at age 77.

Many folks here probably don’t know that he was a first round NFL draft pick.

Re: Greg Landry passes
I saw my first UMass football game as a freshman way back in the fall of 1957 and have probably seen 90% of all UMass football games since then.
Greg was far and away the most talented player to ever play for UMass football.

Re: Greg Landry passes
I've always felt that he never got the recognition he deserved.
Re: Greg Landry passes
Sorry to see him go. Rest in peace.
Saw him lead UMass to a win over Connecticut in in the fall of 1966, when I was a senior in high school.

Re: Greg Landry passes
He was not only the most talented football player in UMass history. He was a decent, likable guy who never let his on-field exploits go to his head. I lived a couple doors down from him in Hills South. Today's players could take a lesson in humility from him. RIP Greg.

Re: Greg Landry passes
May he RIP. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. Represented UMass with class. A real warrior and played hard every single down. Had a sense of class when he played.
Re: Greg Landry passes
1st saw him play as QB for Nashua HS vs my HS, Everett.
EHS went 41-1-2 over 5 yrs.
The only loss @ NHS, a rainy day day on which several hundred cars full of EHS fans, including me, 3000 in all, went to Nashua for the first time.
When Nashua came out to warm up with a 6'4" QB with an arm, and a FG kicker with a 50 yd range, both unheard of then...we never even tried an xtra point kick...we knew that could be a concern for the EHS powerhouse.
Final: Landry+ 22-8.
Monday, EHS was like a morgue.
Everyone was in shock.
Saw him, of course, at UM.
A real star, a pleasure to watch.
RIP

RIP. Hopefully he is honored this weekend.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

Your quiz for the day: Who was the first UMass NFL qb?
(No, not Greg)

All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Re: Greg Landry passes
But wasn't he in the American FB league. Memory is not that good that long ago.
Re: Greg Landry passes
Berkie - He began with the Vikings in 1962, then went to the Broncos. Denver is what you and I remember.
