Every year of failure, that hire matters less. Carvel has done a great job, but he did have a once in a generation player.

They won the natty without Makar and have been back to the tourney twice since. They have been in the tourney five of the last six tournaments and are preseason ranked top ten. That span is elite.

He’s a shit head who posts nonsense he doesn’t know shit about football
So, the guy who has rightly questioned the move to FBS “doesn’t know shit about football” while the guy who is in absolute denial about 19 FBS wins in 13 years is Vince Lombardi?
This is why you are a fool, an idiot, and a troll: you were absent on this board after the NMSU and Army wins last year. You rear your ugly head during and after losses, especially blowouts. I will explain it to you like I would tell a 3 year old: THE FBS move HAS been made. thats it. "rightly questioned" is foolish. Do you rightly question our entry into WW1 or WW2? its ancient history. get over it. But you are a troll who gets his jollies posting on a football board negative shit. GET A FUCKING LIFE.

You seem angry

Sequentially:

WW1, yes;
WW2, no;

Ancient history would be 3000 BC to 500 AD, so would not apply to my take on WW1, WW2 or the UMass football “upgrade,” 2012;

Troll? Hmm. This one seems both a tired cliche and a bit of projection. You seem wildly disturb by the fact that I am critical of our failed football program, responding to virtually every post; you make painfully stale “jokes” about user names (again, after virtually ever post); you track my “absences” from the board after a very rare win (I’ll help you- we’ve won 24 games in 13 years); and you insist I don’t watch games, having zero idea whether this is true or not (I do). So, a troll you say, huh?

“Get a fucking life” and “getting (my) jollies” are throw away lines of an awkward dude yelling at his neighbors.

The game should have been (and was) closer but that 100 yd pick 6 was demoralizing.

As a retired UMass faculty member and a >40-year season ticket holder, like some of you I have sometimes reached the depths of despair where I seriously wonder whether UMass should just give up football since it's been such a mess since the transition to FBS. BUT, now that we will be joining the MAC, there is NO REASON why UMass shouldn't be able to become competitive in that conference and, ultimately, strive for conference championships. Surely we must be reasonably competitive within the MAC with respect to facilities (Performance Center) and fan support (look at the all the empty seats in the Buffalo stadium). What we have lacked is a football PROGRAM, which means a STABLE, COMPETENT coaching staff that can (1) teach proper techniques to the athletes, (2) retain enough of them from year to year to provide the necessary continuity, and (3) inspire them to play their hardest each Saturday. Yes, every year we will lose some of our better/best players to P4 schools, but presumably that occurs in most if not all of the other MAC schools as well. As far as P4 transfers coming in, my guess is that having seen competent coaching in their previous stops, they can quickly sniff out that our coaching staff is mediocre and is unable to put players in the best position to utilize whatever talents they have. So, as pissed off and depressed as I am right now, I believe that UMass has the potential to develop the kind of program I just described. Whether that occurs during Bamford's tenure or after he is replaced by someone else, remains to be seen. Lastly, because the current team has become a sort of laughingstock within collegiate football and the UMass HC job is viewed as perhaps the least desirable in the country, we're inevitably going to have to overpay for both HC and assistant coaches that have the RIGHT STUFF to turn things around.

Makar played his first NHL game in April 2019, title was won in April 2021.

This is the issue. DB openly says things like this and seems to accept it. He seems to accept the emotional roller coaster will cause Inc sister play and effort and is okay with it. That is not the same DB I remember back in the aughts.

Why do people keep saying give up on FBS football? We have a budget comparable to the top of the MAC, the issue isn’t funding its leadership.
The AD has been given more than a fair chance to make UMass successful at the G5 level and he has failed miserably.

I don’t understand why some folks always want to quit on something rather than hold the AD and the UMass system leaders accountable for the disgrace the football program has been since this move up. The athletic department as a whole is mediocre at best under Bamford, the guy is in over his head. We are not Alabama or Michigan athletically but we should be able to have programs that can successfully represent this university and be a source of pride for alumni and its supporters.

Demand more.

Anyone know why Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll was at the game Saturday? Does this help or hurt us?
