Must be someone older lurking out there. :)
Also strange that first game out of the box that year was UConn at their place. These days league games don't usually get going till at least after Christmas.

How's your memory? Can you name the starting five for the Varsity and Freshman teams for the first home games?

For accuracy’s sake our Rick spells his last name,’Pitino’.
Didn't he have 4 in the 1st half?
Then "they" fouled him out in the 1st minute of the 2nd half.

I was listening on the radio in my '65 Buick Skylark 2 door hardtop, in a UF parking lot during my MBA program 12 mo studies...the only place I could pick up the game.
Saw it on reel film in Jack's office early Sept 1970...the 1st place we went to after driving back from FL.

^ I mixed the Marquette game up with the North Carolina game in the 1971 NIT.

That game was played on March 20, 1971. I listened to that game in a 1959 Rambler Ambassador as I was being driven to NYC for medical reasons.

Sorry about that.

^ was that the Ambassador with the front bench seat you pulled forward then released the back of it to make a full size "bed?"

Friend's mom had one in Everett.
We would use it in the driveway to make t full size "couch" and sit and laugh telling typical summer camp fireside like stories.
When I started driving in 1963, being a well respected kid throughout our community-based, many many in the neighborhood community let me drive their wonderful mostly 50s cars.
Did your Ambassador have t push button transmission?
It had an almost secret way to start it.

Driving an Oldsmobile up a steep hill.in reverse with the sound of the rocket engine was so good.

Driving a box truck down from the top of the steep hill in xtra low gear, same.
Truck had a governor to keep it 55 max.

Friend had a Plymouth Fury, maybe 57, nearing end life...he'd be doing 75 on the hwy and drop the column shift into 1st and the car would literally scream PLEASE DON'T DO THAT TO ME AGAIN.

thanks all
I know this is a hoops thread

Yup, it did have a push button transmission. So did the ‘57 Dodge my parents had. Two tone-charcoal gray and coral.

There’s a long story that goes with that car….too long to put here.

At BC-saw Julius Irving make a fabulous play grabbing a rebound and while in midair throwing it the length of the court to a streaking UM player.
Madison Sq Garden for the NIT’s against Jacksonville St (Artis Gilmore?), Believe they played in consecutive NITS or maybe a second round game as well.
The Cage (saw most of their home games during my time there from 72-76),
The Honda Center at the inaugural John Wooden Classic in Anaheim CA. I believe that they played Kansas.
Also met Bruiser Flint at the Long Beach Pyramid at a CA all star showcase, where he was scouting Jameel Pugh (who at the time was the “Dunk Champion”-as proclaimed by SLAM Magazine).
I moved to SO CAL when I was 34, otherwise this list would be significantly longer.
Did see the hockey team play in 2024 in Phoenix AZ vs Cornell and Robert Morris.
I do attend UM sporting events when they are played closer to my home. I saw the hockey team play Denver in 2021? Women’s soccer I think at USC many years ago.

Why would I be mad? More like envious...I would have liked to have been at the games described in Bags' post that I was unable to attend.

Probably just a typo, but his last name is Erving.

Erving of course!!
I forgot football.
Attended most of the home games at McGuirk.
Got to see Greg Landry, and Milt Morin at BC. I won’t forget that game. It was pouring.
I’m pretty sure I saw them play Northeastern in Brookline (Kent Field).
The memory isn’t as good as it used to be!
