Completely agree. He’s gonna get a fat new deal from the state of Connecticut.Old Cage wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2024 2:13 pm I like this from Matt:

Hurley and the Lakers will long wonder what might have been here, but while Hurley is a great tactician and a genius at leading 18-23 year olds for 40 games, his personality isn’t suited to lead men for 82. He and they would be worn out.

Analysis coming out now is saying it was a low-ball offer.

When (not if) Hurley's style and NBA stars don't mesh, Lakers will buy him out, and he'll have a long list of prime jobs to choose from back in college. Or, he'll be financially secure and might not ever work again.

The Laker job right now is not a good job. LeBron is a coach killer. He and AD are not enough to win a title. Older players like LeBron may still retain their offensive skills, but usually they are unwilling or unable at their age to make the defensive commitment to win a title. AD is too brittle.
I think opportunities will be there for Hurley to coach in the NBA in the future with a more talented roster than the Lakers. I think Hurley was smart to turn down the Lakers job.

Re: Dan Hurley to the Lakers?
I was not surprised to see Hurley turn down the Lakers. No college coaches have been very successful when navigating to the NBA.
It is one thing to tell Donovan Clingan what to do and far different to tell LeBron what to do. While it is good for college basketball that he stayed, the only downside was that UConn would have been trashed had he left

You never know. If we won back to back national championships, I think we would be able to.... it's just uh, that situation isn't close to happening nor is it worth discussing.GOODY wrote: Tue Jun 11, 2024 10:44 am Massachusetts Rhode Island etc could never pay their coach what UConn can

Re: Dan Hurley to the Lakers?
He made the right decision. He can make more than enough $$ coaching in college. That big contract would have placed a bulls-eye on his back. Miss the play-offs a couple of time and he's gone.
There's a longer leash at the college level and a much less stressful life.

Re: Dan Hurley to the Lakers?
Clearly I was wrong. I'm going to get absolutely crucified for this take on here, but my respect for Hurley has grown since he's gone to Uconn. I hate the Lakers more than I hate Uconn, and I hate URI more than I hate Uconn too. His antics and persona were (still sort of are) annoying at URI because honestly I thought he was just a lunatic/bonehead who was getting by on his last name, but whatever he's doing is working and he's definitely toned it down since they've started winning. It's hard to argue with the results.MikeUMA wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2024 3:07 pmI think it's this ^natwam2547 wrote: Thu Jun 06, 2024 9:59 am It's a no brainer. Take on the challenge (and the money). I don't think you were wrong... I think he ended up getting a low-ball offer and said fuck that noise. Had he gotten a competitive offer, he would have taken it and what you (and most of us) laid out likely would have happened.
Side note: Fuck UConn.

Re: Dan Hurley to the Lakers?
Bit surprised that nobody posted this yet. It was reported by channel 7 in Boston that Hurley received a 6 year, $50M contract extension. Might now be the highest paid college coach, at least for Hoops.
Made me wonder, can we use NIL to now fund our coaches salaries. If so, maybe that should be a priority in some cases, over the athletes...

That would be solicited through donations to the school's athletic fund rather than through NIL.
They're playing MACsketball. We love that MACsketball.

Hurley is a douche - he doubled stamped it with his over thoughtful interviews during the Final 4 weekend.
