Did I miss a DHS announcement?NilesGold wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2024 9:00 pmI would hope so. Blowing all of the NIL money on Cross, Diggins, Ndjigue, DHS, and Curry would be a huge error in my opinion.
Those 5 would need to show meaningful improvement in 2024-24 vs 2023-24, otherwise I fear the team would take a step back.

You did, he was either just before Curry or just after Curry's announcement.

Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
This is awesome. Co-Most improved player in the A10 and I think that all I'd like to see from him next season is more consistency. He had lights out (and unfortunately a few lights off) games for us. When he's on, he's unreal. He was clutch at the line and the #1 guy I trusted closing out games for us. I'm excited to see him back for a third year.69MG wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2024 2:50 pm ^ The official announcement from The Collective. One more (and a big one) to go.
We are excited to announce that Rahsool Diggins has signed an NIL agreement with The Massachusetts Collective.
Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
No disrespect was intended towards what the collective is doing. I attended a recent member meeting, but wasn't able to stay for the entire thing... the impression I got (and understandably so) is that much of the strategy is guided by the coaches. This makes sense to me, as they know better than anyone what players they want, and how important each one is.umasscollective wrote: Thu Apr 11, 2024 8:05 amLast year NIL money was allocated to 2 1st Team A10 Players and an All Rookie Team Player.NilesGold wrote: Wed Apr 10, 2024 9:00 pmI would hope so. This year, so far, we have allocated NIL money to the A10 Most Improved Player, an All Rookie Team Member, a Freshman who started ALL games for UMass last year and a player who showed flashes of brillance while not having a full offseason last year due to injuries.
I think we have a pretty good handle on it.
We do review and discuss openly our strategy and position in our member meetings. Feel free to join them, if you are a member.
And we could ALWAYS use more $www.TheMassCollective.com/join
I think the efforts of the collective were vital to the success of MBB in the 2023-24 season. That being said, if all of the resources available to us for 2024-25 are used to retain the 5 players I mentioned, that would be of concern to me. I love Cross and Ndjigue, and Diggins, Curry, and DHS have shown themselves to be solid players. But there's no clear replacement for Cohen, and perhaps our biggest weakness last year (guard play) needs to be improved. NIL money could be used to address those two areas of concern, but not if it's all used to retain those 5... which leaves me with my original statement that the group of 5 would need to make significant improvements vs last year if all of the NIL money is allocated to them, and the other areas of concern can't be aided by NIL resources.
I think Frank & the collective knows what they're doing, certainly better than I. My assumption is that all of the resources are NOT being used on those 5... but if they are, I suspect they must feel very strongly about the ability of those 5 to improve vs their play last season.

I see your point Niles - I would also like to use more NIL money to pull in high rated incoming transfers.

Speculating about our strategy doesn't contribute positively. Instead, we encourage active support through participation in one of our frequent and transparent meetings (open to all members), need to stay the entire time to get the full story. Your presence would greatly benefit yourself and those who may not be fully informed and connect you closer to what were tryin to accomplish.NilesGold wrote: Thu Apr 11, 2024 9:12 amNo disrespect was intended towards what the collective is doing. I'm not sure what you expect Baker to do. The NCAA is enjoined from enforcing its transfer rules.Quann wrote: Fri Apr 12, 2024 11:55 amThat's depressing. Re: UMass transfer portal news - 2024
Here's one from out of left field, way way out. Lual Manyang, a 6-10 center from Valpo has entered the portal. He originally committed to Hofstra and red-shirted with an injury. He also re-shirted at Valpo due to an injury. So yes, lots of red flags. He has 4 years left.
Here's the good part. He's from South Sudan (hello, Mathok!!). The difference is in their BB pedigree. Read it below. If he works out, maybe it also helps Mathok and we get a 2 for 1. As I said, it's a huge risk-reward deal.
From Valpo news:

From Valpo news:
EDIT: I just noticed we offered him in 2012, along with half of the A10.Manyang was listed by 247Sports as the 17th-best center and the 142nd best overall player in the class of 2022. He was a three-star recruit by ESPN100 in addition to being the eighth-best recruit in New Jersey and the 49th-best center in the nation.
Manyang, who started playing basketball at the age of 16, moved to the United States in 2018 and spent a year at a boarding school in Long Island, N.Y. before making his way to Blair Academy.
