^ That's why SBU has to lose 1 of its games and finish 10-8. We lose all tiebreakers to SBU or SJU. That SJU loss is killing us.

Imagine if we had pulled off the win vs Loyola. That would have changed things too. I just hope we are due for some good luck in a few more close games.

Bergman reached the same conclusion
https://twitter.com/MLBergman_/status/1 ... 5056940305

4 VCU (11-5): 3/5 at DUQ, 3/8 vs DAY
5 UM (10-7): 3/6 vs FOR
6 SBU (9-7): 3/6 at GW, 3/9 vs SLU
7 SJU (8-8): 3/6 at RICH, 3/9 vs DAV
7 DUQ (8-8): 3/5 at VCU, 3/9 vs GW
SJU & DUQ have each beaten the other, I'm not sure what the next tie breaker does to split them.

If the following 2 events happen, it doesn't matter if we win or lose on Wed. We would be locked into 5 or 6.

Tuesday - VCU at home vs. Duq. BPI has them favored by 4.5. Gives Duq. 9 losses.
Wednesday - Richmond at home vs. SJU. BPI has them favored by 6. Gives SJU 9 losses.

Even if we lose, we only have 8 losses. The incentive to win is an outside shot at a double bye (and a better feeling going into the A10 tourney. It's a long shot because SBU has to lose to both GW and SLU.

We will know before we play if we have a chance at the double bye because of the Tuesday night game. If VCU wins, Umass is locked into a 5-7 seed. Duquesne win brings more chaos. Keeps the slim chance at 4 seed alive(need vcu and sbu losses in final games). But there is also a chance a 10-8 team gets the 8 seed. Need to beat Fordham to avoid that tiebreaker mess and get at least a 6.

Duquesne beat VCU, who played without their leader Shulga who was hurt. And Billups, not one of their top guys but did add depth, got hurt during the game. I don't see them winning at Dayton Friday, although they beat Dayton last time. And Dayton has been beatable lately.

So…if we beat Fordham, VCU losses at Dayton, and SBU splits their last two, we finish in 4th? Or, if we beat Fordham but SBU wins out, we finish 5th? Do I have the right? Not thinking about losing to Fordham because that is not what anyone related to the program should be doing.

UM's path to the 4 seed now has 3 parts left:
1. UM must beat Fordham (at The Bill, UM -10) tomorrow.
2. VCU must lose at Dayton (VCU underdog) on Friday.
3. Bona must lose either at GW (Wed, SBU -8) or at home vs SLU (Sat, SBU favored).

1 and 2 are quite possible. Can't see Bona losing to GW and SLU. Let's just take care of business against Fordham and hopefully get the 5.

Duquesne might be the team that no upper half team would want to face early in the A10 tournament as they have gone 9-3 since their 0-5 start in the A10. Final Standings/Seedings do not reflect what teams are the hottest when it matters!

We were picked 13th in preseason poll and now have a chance to have a double bye Friday night. GW just needs to break their 12 game losing streak while we beat Fordham tomorrow and then Dayton wins at home.

I can't say this loudly enough: KEEP YOUR FOCUS AND DON'T LET DOWN AGAINST FORDHAM. If we lose this game, all kinds of tiebreak scenarios become available for 5-8.
