Sigh.
Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

You are mixing G5 conferences. The bright silver lining is a much better shot of making the Dance. We had an easier OOC schedule. This season should get us into better tournaments and will just need to start scheduling in between the present easy OOC schedules and the Cal days of anyone, anywhere.
Don’t poke the Bear!!! Another thread highjacked by Steve81 and his conference talk.

Let’s go 6-0 and finish 3rd. Stay away from Dayton until the final.
Like finishing out strong. Was replying to inthescoop, who poked the bear with inaccurate post. UAB and Tulsa are in the American Conference.
Be proud of the present and look to the future.

I'm addicted to these projected seeing probability charts: https://twitter.com/mjhackman/status/17 ... lgUhQ&s=19

Most likely spot is 5th at 27%, but to my surprise 4th is actually a % point higher than 6th. There's a 68% chance we finish 4-6

I just looked at the schedules of the 3 teams closest to us at 6-6: GMU, SJU and SBU. GMU has a tough schedule and probably goes 3-3. St. Joes and SBU have easier schedules than we do and should go no worse than 4-2 (and that's with a SBU loss to us). If we go 3-3, we finish in a 3-way tie with them and we drop to 7th due to the tiebreaker. That loss to St. Joes is killing us.

Best way to avoid this is to go 4-2, and that's very possible. We want to be 5 or 6, it's an easier path than 7th.

How do tiebreakers work if we split the series with St Bonaventure? If we go 3-3 and they go 4-2, we would both be 10-8 and 19-11 overall.

great question - I just went on A-10.com and "Tiebreaking Procedures" are grayed out so maybe they don't even know

https://atlantic10.com/sports/2023/7/27/MBB24.aspx

I have to believe its something like point differential vs team your tied with - I mean with an unbalanced schedule you really can't do a common opponent - what would you do if they both played the same team twice and they both won? I guess its probably not that hard to figure out since Bergman always posts his daily A-10 bracket and there are teams tied and he has the seeds all layed out so he must know the tie breakers and I'm sure with a few searches we could find out but with 7 games left I have to believe it'll all work itself out

Games to watch today (other than UMass/La Salle, duh):

- St Bonaventure is home against Davidson. Davidson is having a slightly down year and just lost their best player, I have to think that St Bona will win this one.
- St Joes at Duquesne. This is a toss up. Duquesne started A10 play 0-5, but are 4-2 in their last 6 league games (they also had a random Chicago State win at the end of January). I'll be keeping an eye on this game to see if the Dukes can take down St Joes.

URI and George Mason are off today. Rhody hosts Loyola tomorrow and George Mason's next game is against Dayton at home on Wednesday.

Adding Richmond at GW 12:30 to the list of games to watch. Loss here for UR could lead to a late season collapse that Umass started for them. Interesting to see how they bounce back.

VCU took care of business last night at SLU. They will be entering UMass game on 4 game winning streak and 9-1 in last 10.

The most important questions I ask regarding the outcome of these games do we want to have a chance at guaranteeing single bye or have a chance a a double bye. Teams below that lose going forward assure us a single bye, but losses by teams above give us a chance for a double bye. Of course, none of that matters if we don’t take care of business on our end, which is to win. Here are my thoughts on today’s games and what outcomes I think are best:

VCU beat SLU (if SLU won then it would have setup a #4 seed game if UMass beats LaSalle today)

UMass beat LaSalle (we control our destiny for a single bye by just winning)

Richmond beats GW (Loss by GW would give them 9 losses and a less likely threat to us, but a Richmond loss would open the possibility of the #4 seed if they continued to slide)

Dayton beats Fordham (Loss by Fordham would give them 8 losses and make it harder for them to get a single bye especially if the lose to us in the next few week. Don’t anticipate that Dayton will fall out of the top 4 spots)

Duquesne beats St. Joes( A loss by Joe would give then 7 losses and give us a cushion for a higher seed and a loss by Duquesne would give the 8 losses and again would it much harder for them to get a single bye and assure us a single bye over them with the tie break rules.

Davidson beats Bonnies (Same rationale as Duquesne over St. Joe’s)

In the end, this will be a fun four weeks of basketball as every game matters with two big big games against the VCU and the Bonnies next week!

Agree about Richmond as they don’t seem as good as their record so a collapse might be a reality. VCU is just another program that wins despite turnover at the coaching position.

Due to the overlap of games on ESPN+ , CBSSN and USA, I am going to need all 3 of my devices (TV, Tablet, and Phone) going at once at 2pm. Should be a great day of basketball in a short period of time.

Welp, after that disaster, top 4 is completely out of the picture in my opinion. Luckily, St Joe's did us a solid and lost at Duquesne. We'll see if Davidson can knock off the Bonnie's.
