Re: 2023 Recruiting
so does Ducky signing mean that Dingle is a no-go?
Re: 2023 Recruiting
I think scouts will want to see how Dingle handles more challenging competition than he faced in the IVY. Moving from a 1 bid conference to another 1 bid conference will not help that.
Re: 2023 Recruiting
Did we offer Dingle?
If he want's to be here, we would make room.
Actually, the A10 would be a great choice for a kid like him. He'd crush it here and level up the average competition he's playing against without worrying about a potential drop off in numbers.

With all due respect, this is almost certainly beyond the realm of possibility. Don't be fooled by his Ivy League association: Dingle is one of the better players in America at any level and will command 300K or more in NIL. So if we want to find that money I'd be beyond thrilled but the notion that the A10 would be a better choice than any of the zillion P5 schools coveting him is a big stretch.DoctorJ wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 8:48 am Did we offer Dingle?

Re: 2023 Recruiting
The only way it happens is a package deal where Dana is brought in as an Assistant Coach… plus some NIL money. I’d say it’s plausible but still unlikely.Marty Peretz wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 10:24 amWith all due respect, this is almost certainly beyond the realm of possibility. Dr. Seuss would be proud.

I agree. Almost the same odds as GG playing another year of college hoop and following his close friend DHS to play for Frank at UMassMarty Peretz wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 10:24 amWith all due respect, this is almost certainly beyond the realm of possibility. George Turkson ?
Re: 2023 Recruiting
Good point about Gibbs. When we recruited Gibbs I was working in CT. One of my co-workers was a star PG in New Britain many years ago. His son played for URI and he coached AAU in CT. I told him that we were getting Gibbs. He told me not to get too excited. Gibbs was a 6'4 PG in HS but played in a very weak conference and most teams didn't have centers that were more than 6'4. He wasn't sure that Gibbs would shine against A10 level talent. He was a wise man.
I don't think that's the same story for Curry. He's played in a lot of top level tournaments and played against good players.

So, this post moved as instructed by 69MG (pardon). However, having read every scrap of comment on all of the majors threads, I don't see that the question - particularly the lack of local sports media interest - had already been discussed. One or more subsequent responses addressed the lack of recognition on Twitter nationally but I'm talking about local media. Another says, "athletics put out a press release - what else do you want them to do." That seems half hearted to me. After working at Umass for 23 years, I have the strong impression that when we really want some Hampshire Gazette coverage - we can get it.
So maybe the answer that explains the Umass end of the equation - as suggested - is keeping under the radar and not inflating 2023 expectations. Maybe that's a good thing. I just wanted it covered in the Gazette and to see some analysis and Q&A with Martin.
Zeke, this ought to be in the 2023 thread. A lot of it has already been discussed.Zeke wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2023 7:21 am I'm perplexed by the Athletic Dept. silence - even after the signings of Curry and Haskins-Sanford - and by the lack of media coverage (for locals that means the Gazette) - not to say fanfare. Is Frank being cautious - even vengeful toward a fan base pointing fingers at him over all the talent lost to the transfer portal - and seeking not to raise expectations too high?
Does anybody else think those latest signings -on top of Cohen, Majok and a promising incoming fresh class - merit some public attention and press coverage?

Re: 2023 Recruiting
My take on the media exposure, or lack of it, and the lack of fan enthusiasm is that last year we announced a big time coaching hire along with some highly touted recruits and transfers. This year, we are coming off a disappointing end to the season (the entire A10 performance) and a bunch of guys leaving.
I'm probably more optimistic than most and I think Frank has done a good job of restocking the roster. We probably won't know until the season starts, but I'm hoping there is decent coverage of the Spain trip so we can get an idea of who is getting playing time.
