Fire Lappas yesterday and get the process of rebuilding this program started sooner rather than later...Go UMass!

Why wouldn't they wait until after the post-season invitations are extended?
You know, say what you will about America, 13 bucks still gets you a hell of a lot of mice.

It's part of the renegotiated contract. It may be obvious, but the stipulations of the new contract do not kick in until postseason bids are officially announced.

So does this mean if the NIT offers, UMass has to accept?

They don't have to accept, but if they are offered Lappas gets the guarantee.

Please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please, please assure me that it is IM-POSSIBLE for this team to get an NIT invite. I have no faith that the UMass powers-that-be will do the right thing if they're on the hook for the Big buyout.

How late on Sunday is the NIT field announced?

Our RPI rank is 30 places higher than the worst of last year's NIT field.

If we get an NIT bid there's going to be a few dozen royally pissed off schools in front of us.

I wonder if he left the tournament early to start packing up his things?

Not to worry, he is TOAST. We did nothing last 10 days or so to give the NIT committee a reason to dip that deep into the offal of the A10 this year - La Salle loss sealed it, but we did not go on enough of a run before that.

Why March 15th (or so)? Contract yes (close out any NIT chances) plus it is smart media to not have the annoucement lost in all the other MBB media news until all theleague tournaments are done, and tourneys have not started yet.

The NIT is all about selling tickets. UMass brings nothing to the table in terms of record, stature and fan support. It won't happen.

Maryland's loss to Clemson in the ACC tournament bursts their NCAA bubble, meaning one less NIT slot for us.

rarely is a coach fired or not renewed the minute a season ends...

patience all, patience; I'd like to see things move forward quickly too either way, but the couple extra days help to get over what just recently happened to end of the season (unofficially).
