Re: Game Eleven: Texas A&M
^ With DB a world class defensive genius, shouldn’t he have a great deal of experience playing against difficult offensive alignments and game plans that he would be able to integrate into his own offensive game plan? Just wondering…..
Re: Game Eleven: Texas A&M
It just doesn’t usually work like that. How many great specialist coaches have you seen able to make the jump to the other side of the ball? It just doesn’t happen. We get a decent competent OC in here and we’re on our way to a .500 or better season.

Re: Game Eleven: Texas A&M
^. As a DC at the highest level, he game plans how to stop elite offenses every week and some offensive systems are more difficult to stop than others. We are not talking about a 30 year old wonder kid!!
He also has as much responsibility for the success of the offense as he does the defense! Do you think when he spoke to his AD, he indicated that he would have no role in the offensive side of the ball?

I said I wasn't going to comment on football until we won another game. I'm not commenting, just relaying what a Texas A&M fan said:

I know UMass isn't a good football team.
But I have no idea what they're trying to do on offense.
I'm not even sure that scheme works well if they were better at execution.

maybe we hit the daily double in Dec. Rehire Whip and get commit from Watson III

they are a juggernaut
Re: Game Eleven: Texas A&M
In the modern FB game, the QB position is key, and it is clear we do not have it at the FCS level, much less FBS.
As the worst team in 'big boy' football, that has to be the number one recruiting priority. IMO, this is more important than just firing the OC, given the obvious limitations we have at QB. Perhaps they are putting plays out there given the limits of the backfield in general?
The D is pretty good and showed it today, but O needs major re-engineering.

Econ.. I agree with you 100%.. I don't think anyone in the QB room starts in FCS. Play calling hasn't been great.. but he is working with nothing.. he had a QB at Ferris and they scored 50 a game

It is amazing to me how some of you guys bad mouth Merriweather so much. The issue is how he is being utilized and being run up the middle almost every play. Merriweather is a Pro Style power back. A play action passing game with QB under center at least sometimes will help. We forget he is the ONLY back in the FBS era to rush for over 1000 yards for Umass. He ran for 1100 yards 5.2 yards per attempt in 8 starts last year. But I keep hearing put another back in or this back is better. How about the OC use the player correctly based on his skill set. I played the game and the position so I know how a coach can totally misuse a player and make him look bad. The whole season Merriweather has gotten 1 carry then he is out for a series or two. The first game he got consecutive carries and series was the last game against Arkansas St and guess what he went for 122 yards and three scores (2 Tds and extra pt) last week. Merriweather is a workhorse back, a big back. No he doesnt run as fast as Greg D, and he isnt as quick as Kay'Ron hitting the hole. They are also smaller quicker backs but that doesnt mean that they are better. They all bring something different to the table.
Had Merriweather been used correctly this year he would have had another 1000 yard season but we chose to run a High school offense with the QB getting more carries that the RB's for 8 or 9 games. Some of you dont have a clue about the position. Merriweather was on the Maxwell, Shiners Bowl, Wueffuel and All State Good hands list for a reason at the beginning of the season along with Phil Steele 1st team Preseason All Independent list. He is on several draft boards including Sports Illustrated. The coaches have failed Merriweather specifically this year. I will be an apologist for him since some of you bash him weekly it seems. The Running backs coach that he had under Bell/Miller knew how to get the most out of him.

Who the heck are you to come on here with your first post and start to lecture anyone on one player!!! Football is a TEAM sport and the team is 1 - 10 and who cares if one player wasn't used correctly, when NONE of the offense was used correctly this season. Put your anger towards the UMass coaching staff and not posters on here who have different opinions then yours. Its UMass, not Umass, get it right next time!Bigdawg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 10:30 pmIt is amazing to me how some of you guys bad mouth Merriweather so much. First post and you come on here acting like a Jack!!!

Re: Game Eleven: Texas A&M
Dennis I am not angry with anyone. I simply stated a few facts. I am not lecturing anyone either. You are the one acting like a jerk. I have a right to post my opinions on this board whether I have posted one time or 1000 times. You are the one in the wrong. I said that I was being an apologist for the kid that people keep dumping on and I used one of the quotes. BTW, I have been on the board for years this is simply my first time posting. Sorry that you feel the way that you do because I was not angry at all but you sure sound angry. Do you attack new posters that you dont agree with?

Re: Game Eleven: Texas A&M
I called you a Jack, not a "jerk." You would know what I meant if you were actually part of this board! You came on here attacking other posters views on Merriweather--did you even read your own post? I can't take internet bullies who attack others like you did on here. Just like a bully, you can dish it out but can't take it huh...If you haven't posted, you're called a lurker. Show a little respect for others and maybe you'll get it back...Bigdawg wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 11:14 pm Dennis I am not angry with anyone. I simply stated a few facts. Oh yeah, I really like Ellis and think he's a warrior. Of course the TEAM was 1 - 11 with him getting 1,000 yards and most likely 1 - 11 without 1,000 yards. The program is much more then one player.
Re: Game Eleven: Texas A&M
No Dennis I did not attack anyone. I stated facts. I have a right to my opinion just like anyone else that posts on this board. You guys go at it all the time. Who said the whole team was about Merriweather? I surely didnt. I said he was being misused. Others on this board talk about players being misused or under utilized also, but I cant because I am a new poster? I was not being a bully but you surely are. I didn't disrespect anyone personally. But I can dish it out and take it if I choose to but that was not my point. I might not post again but it wont be because of anything that you said. It seems like to me that you think you are the guardian of this board. So only you can make comments? This will be my last comment regarding this subject. You feeling the need to protect the board from newbies or "lurkers" is over kill. You could have ignored me but that's not what internet bullies do. I am a 'UMass" fan. I was simply giving my opinion and certain facts regarding one player as is done here all the time.

"Some of you don't have a clue about the position." Sounds like an attack on others (you quoted another poster)...You don't have to listen to me or respond to my comments either. I could care less if anyone posts on here but I will call you, or anyone else out if I want too for being a bully or a Jack (yes Jack).Bigdawg wrote: ↑Sun Nov 20, 2022 12:04 am No Dennis I did not attack anyone.
