Rollie - a local! St John's (Danvers) and Exeter.

Great IQ and a Pure shooter. This kid really knows the game. Was a pleasure coaching him this summer.

Let's hope that this is a first step toward commandeering our share of the New England scene.

If you go to salemnews.com and search on Castineyra you get 66 hits. After a few, though, they ask you to pay. The stories are about his St. John's years.

Cage, what do you mean by that? We already have 6 scholarship players from New England on the roster for this year. That seems like a pretty good amount. That's more then BC, UConn, URI, Vermont, and probably a few more New England schools that I didn't have time to look up.

^ Yes, and I'm happy about that. But, none of the six were recruited out of high school for UMass by Martin. I'm just hoping that we can especially reconnect with the EMass kids, not simply because they are from MA, but because there is more attention paid to our team in the Boston area - by alums and in the press - when that happens. Monte and Ant and Jon from back when are prime examples. Rollie is well known - St. John's Prep and Middlesex Magic - and to me that is a big deal.

It's nice that guys from Brockton and Beverly and Newton and Mattapoisett are now with us, but that is a different story.

^ What's so difficult? We have four MA guys that have transferred in, but Rollie is hopefully the first of a string of MA players successfully recruited out of high school by Frank Martin.

^ I think Ndjigue is from Lowell, so that gives us 2 out of 3 for next year from the Bay State. On a side note, it's interesting that all 3 for next year are guards (although Davis could be a wing at 6'6). Two of the three freshmen for this year are also guards (again, Luis at 6'6 could be a wing).

Since we only have 2 guaranteed open spots next year (Kante & Martin) we are potentially 1 over the limit. I also suspect that we are looking for a freshman big for next year. I'm not going to speculate on who might be leaving, but it happens every year. My guess is it will be players looking for more playing time. You can't give all 13 guys enough minutes.

We’ve had a lot of under the radar recruits in the last couple of years but this one is on top. Apparently he was very good in 6th grade

Not having seen Rollie play but from what I can find on him, he sounds like DK when he was coming out of HS. Solid player, high basketball IQ, can shoot, pass and defend.

Great. We just need to surround him with four all-conference players and he'll do just fine.
