La Salle (A-10 first rd)
La Salle (A-10 first rd)
On the coaches show tonight, Lap made some comments about La Salle...
- Expects La Salle to play zone defense the entire game.
- Keys to the game are rebounding and 3-point defense.
Since our meeting two weeks ago...
La Salle went 1-2, losing to Duquesne and Temple on the road, and beating Xavier at home.
Duq game 72-77
The Duqies beat La Salle by 15 on the glass, and we just beat the Duqies by 15. Per Lap's point, if we can hit the glass hard, we should be able to win. Steven Smith scored 22, and Jermaine Thomas scored a career high 33. The two took 2/3 of the team's shots. Containing the two on Wednesday is obviously important.
Xavier 53-52 (OT)
The X men had a 3 point lead with 2 min to play, but couldn't score again. Thomas and Smith had 16 and 13 respectively. Smith had 10 boards, but the team still was -11 against Xavier. Xavier only shot 32% for the game.
Temple 67-73
Against Temple's zone, La Salle hoisted 35 threes, hitting 13. Smith and Thomas scored 20 each, and Darnell Harris added 15. They lost the rebounds by 5, and only went to the line twice.
Thomas's torn finger ligament apparently hasn't been a problem.
Smith is still first in the league at 20.3 ppg, and Thomas is tied for 10th at 13.5. For us, Freeman is 6th at 15.3, MoMax 19th at 11.6.

Anderson and OliLam are not making the trip. Chadwick is still recovering from his illness, but should be ready tomorrow.

For those that care (seems Mike is one I think), UMass is a 3.5 or 4 point favorite tomorrow. Also, Richmond is 5 over URI (the way URI has played lately, that might be an interesting idea), Fordham is 3.5 over Duquesne (maybe they get to wear home jerseys and the wise guys think they'll play OK), and Dayton is 14.5 over SBU. For those that like to bet it old school, Memphis is -9 vs. future opponent St. Louis.
Thanks Jack.....

LaSalle is going to pack in the zone and if this team shoots three's like they did against the Dukies, it will be a struggle. But this is likely the team you're going to see next year except for Chadwick(who may see limited time again), so it will interesting to see what happens.
I was going to save this thought for the appropriate time, but it looks like it will never come: UMass could have been ending the season with two starting Senior guards, and when that happens, special things often take place in the post season. I guess I just hate to see AA's career end like this.

Hmmmmmm. There are not many beautiful trees at La Salle. But I have noticed that their basketball players can often put up some threes. (Was that a pun? Ents aren't known for puns..., much to hasty a way of humor). But if one takes the long look over the whole of this basketball season, if La Salles puts the ball in the hoop sufficiently to amass 70 points, I think the Minutemen, from the lovely forests of Western Massachusetts, may be in as much trouble as hobbits facing an army of Orcs. It would be sad to see them Minutemen return home from Ohio so quickly. True, there are no forests theres, but their hearts would want them to score enough points so they do not have to hastily return to Amherst. That would be sad.

Hey guys Oakland, whom only won 9 regular season games, just qualified for the NCAA by winning their tourney. Miracles can happen. Maybe Lappas can catch lightning in a bottle this week. Umass (12-12) and LaSalle (11-11-2) are both .500 versus the number this year (some games they played did not have odds). I am laying some cake on Umass (-4) to cover at the neutral site. Wiseguys have over/under on this game at 122. The lowest total of all 4 A-10 games so expect a game in the 60's and rebounding will be tantamount to winning.
