Re: Return of Derek Kellogg?
Wonder what percent are waiting for the actual hire of someone?

Re: Return of Derek Kellogg?
I'd be ok with it to fill an open assistant spot for this upcoming season. Longer term though I hate it. DK is at the point in his career where he could get another HC job (Lowell should hire him) and he's not that far removed from being the HC here. If his goal is to come here and wait it out to see if he can get another crack at HC, no way. If it's just for a season cause the spot is available and in the short term can help his alma mater while polishing his resume, that's fine.

Or maybe he’s realized that being a head coach isn’t what he wants.
I think there’s a lot of shit we don’t know. I choose to put my trust in Martin and all of the parties involved. Does my faith sometimes bite me in the ass? Is sure does. I have some doozies for exes. That doesn’t stop me from believing when I trust someone though.

Don’t underestimate the lure and value of Massachusetts State Pension….I believe the initial vesting occurs at ten (10) years and DK has nine (9)…..

His son is also a good player.. maybe just being around while his kid goes to one of the local preps is a huge draw.. be stable for a while without the pressure of being the head guy.
Re: Return of Derek Kellogg?
It seems to make sense for him. Snag a steady paycheck

Re: Return of Derek Kellogg?
It's minimum of 5 years in Mass if you have state job in other state as well. Plus DK had time as a grad assistant under Cal at UMass during the final 4 year. He already has a case for a pension in Mass even without considering his buy-in eligibility from his other state jobs. Plus we don't know about whether the remaining year of his guaranteed contract counts toward it.TruBluMaroon wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 6:06 pm Don’t underestimate the lure and value of Massachusetts State Pension….I believe the initial vesting occurs at ten (10) years and DK has nine (9)…..

^ I would doubt that a Graduate Assistant position would qualify for a pension.

I hope this pension talk never ends.

I had to pay into the state retirement as a graduate teaching/research assistant at UMass Amherst.TruBluMaroon wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 8:22 pm ^ I would doubt that a Graduate Assistant position would qualify for a pension.
Regardless. There is a buy in and he'd only have to buy in a years worth of contributions based on salary in another state. I don't think he was paid a lot at Mason or Youngstown.

Please, never compare DK to Jack Leaman in any possible way. Never

So you find it uncomfortable that I stated his actual coaching record? I think we can all see who once got stuffed into a locker.DanaDingle3 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 8:19 amIt sucks that Derek stuffed you into a locker freshman year, but you gotta get over it. Hopefully Frank and UMass hire him, and if and when they do, we'll have seen about the biggest turnaround in coaching staffs in college basketball history.JoleonLescottsHair wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 8:44 pmMaybe, but he wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire. 74-74 in 5 seasons. The guy they fired to get to DK was coming off a 20 win season, something DK failed to achieve in his 5 seasons.UMassfan_19 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 14, 2022 5:37 pm
The LIU firing was a university politics thing and less about his ability to coach

Stop waiting for UMass to do something big and help UMass do something big. - Shades

No official news on DK yet??? "I sense a disturbance in the force."
Re: Return of Derek Kellogg?
This summer of news has me wondering what you were like as a kid at Christmas time, 69.
