2022 Recruiting
Re: 2022 Recruiting
I have to say, I didn't realize that UMass took in 15 transfers this recruiting cycle. I think a lot of that has to do with Coach Brown and the opportunity to play starter reps. Will be interesting to see how many of them make an impact in Year 1 with the program.
Re: 2022 Recruiting
Think it also had a lot to do with how late Coach was hired. An awful lot of good high school players were committed elsewhere. Hard to flip them that late in the game. More quality in the Portal and for most of the players we were getting off to an equal start in recruiting.

Thats interesting. You think that we are going to have an entirely new OL with freshman recruits or transfers replacing all of these veterans? In my view that would be surprising.

Maybe I'm missing somebody but I think we have the following incoming OL: Tyler Leinberger OG 6'4 310 (Frosh); Cole Garcia OG 6'3 315 (Transfer from Rice) and Ben Bohnenberger OG 6'4 320 (Transfer from Colgate). I can definitely see Cole Garcia coming in and immediately competing with Fagundes or Mottinger for a starting OG role.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
The center position is already changed by moving Atwood from the DL. Guys transferring to UMass should expect a good shot at starting. There was no time for any QB due to the line play. I don’t think any position player aside from maybe Merriweather should feel like they have the same job they had last year, especially the OL. I would not be surprised to see another DL and the newcomers be the starters on the OL in the fall.Jack wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 12:13 pmminutefanjsf wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 8:22 pm My guess is the OL will be all new once the recruits land on campus.

Re: 2022 Recruiting
There are three transfers. Vasher savannah state, also. Like I said I assume all three will be the starters. I don’t think they were convinced to transfer to UMass to be back ups.minutefanjsf wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 9:24 amThe center position is already changed by moving Atwood from the DL. Re: 2022 Recruiting
It should be interesting to see if all 3 transfers are starters. Atwood is still listed as DL has he been permanently moved to C to compete with Horn?
Re: 2022 Recruiting
Billy Wooden would have a secure spot, no? Thought he was very solid last year

Atwood is the C at this point I think. It will be interesting m for sure. The OL was still the worst unit on the team last year, IMO.

^ If you heard Coach Brown after the Spring Game, he says Atwood is making great strides and says he may have NFL future!

Re: 2022 Recruiting
With the exception of Bryce Watts, the whole team sucked. The OL was absolutely horrendous. But even worse than the team, was the "coaching staff"minutefanjsf wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 6:38 pmminutefanjsf wrote: ↑Sat May 07, 2022 6:37 pmAtwood is the C at this point I think. Re: 2022 Recruiting
This recruiting class is fantastic with the 3 and 4 star guys we got through the Portal: Tyler Rudolph and Marcus Bradley to name a couple.
Re: 2022 Recruiting
Ok. I don't count Atwood as a new guy. Do you see the 3 actual new guys as all starting on the OL ?minutefanjsf wrote: ↑Sun May 08, 2022 6:38 pmYes. He will be the center not Horn. There are four new guys coming in, and Atwood is a “new” guy to the OL.
