UMass Hockey adds a transfer d-man. Per his Instagram, Colgate D Elliot McDermott will be transferring to UMass. 4-15-19 in 62 games, and at 23 years old his age and experience will be important for a UMass back end which is very young.

Was listed as a Sophomore on this years’ roster. Hope he’s ready for the culture change. Colgate has less than 3000 students in a town - Hamilton - which has less than 5000. people. Spent 2 years working and living there in the late ‘80’s and it was significantly smaller😁

Josh Nodler, a Junior forward from Michigan State (12-23-1) has entered the portal. He had 7 goals and 8 assists last year, good for 4th on the team.
Demin has entered the portal and I would gladly make this swap.

From Mike McMahon:

One of the top forwards in the BCHL, Tyson Dyck, has committed to UMass. Ranked #110 by NHL CSS for the 2022 draft. Merrimack and Minnesota State were finalists for Dyck. He took visits to all three schools.

Cranbrook Bucks F Tyson Dyck jumps 81 spots from the mid-term NHL Central Scouting rankings, ends up at 110th (4th round) in the North American skater category. Dyck led the Bucks this year with 31G 41A in 54GP.

Might we see some transfers out of UMich?

From "The Athletic":
Michigan men’s hockey coach accused of berating staff, misleading recruits and retaliating against team captain
In responses to an anonymous survey of the University of Michigan men’s hockey program’s players and staff, coach Mel Pearson was accused of telling players to provide false information on COVID contact-tracing forms, of misleading recruits about how much scholarship money they would receive, and of allegedly calling one player a “Jew.” Pearson also displayed an “inability or unwillingness” to hold the team’s director of hockey operations accountable for conduct that included the “mistreatment of female staff members,” according to a separate investigative report.

From the Atlantic

Michael Hrabal, G, Czechia, 2023 eligible: Hrabal was quite good in this tournament, helping lead Czechia to some wins in games they were outplayed in. At 6-foot-6, 201 pounds he’s an imposing figure in the net even as a 17-year-old. His lateral movement isn’t amazing, but it’s good for his size and complements his strong technique and reads. He’s committed to UMass and plans to play in the USA this season. His USHL rights are owned by Dubuque who has some veteran goalies returning, so Hrabal told me his plan is to play in the NAHL. If that happens, he would be the best NAHL prospect since Anthony Stolarz in 2012 as Hrabal looks like the early favorite to be the first goalie picked in the 2023 draft.
