What would be your UM game to watch, in lieu of the scheduled game?

I would easily opt for the Lou Roe Arkansas game in Springfield.

Under the revised A-10 COVID policy, games that cannot be played due to positive COVID-19 tests will be postponed and attempted to be rescheduled by the Atlantic 10 Conference office. If a suitable reschedule date cannot be found, the game will be declared a no contest. Conference standings and championship seeding will be based on an approved formula balancing team win-loss records with total number of contests completed. If a team opts to not play the rescheduled contest, the game can be declared a forfeit by the league office. In addition, the conference also revised an earlier policy for requiring teams to complete conference games. The revision requires teams that have seven available scholarship student-athletes and one countable coach to compete in all conference contests. Teams may also participate with less than seven available student-athletes. If a team elects not to play, despite having seven scholarship student-athletes and one coach available, that team will incur a forfeit and be given a loss in the league standings, and the opposing team will be granted a forfeit win.
Why a no contest? In other scenarios where the team does not follow the Covid protocols it goes down as a forfeit.

I'm still looking for clarification on this section of the revised guidelines. Does this apply to the originally scheduled game or the rescheduled game? If it's the regular game, it means SLU does not have 7 healthy players otherwise it's a forfeit.

Yeah, my interpretation is that SLU doesn't have enough cleared players OR coaches, which triggers the postponement and attempt to reschedule. It's a no contest if it can't be played IF there's a good faith effort by both parties to play the game. If they find a date but one team refuses to play, it is then a forfeit.

I don't mind that at all, as long as the rules are applied evenly and fairly across the league. Unfortunately, I can see the league playing favorites on occasion, and I can also see teams using it as an excuse to duck potential losses.

No matter what, this was all predictable, and the health/safety measures are in place, including the CDC announcing reduced quarantine and isolation times yesterday, so every AD in the league, and the league itself should be making every effort possible to reschedule or shuffle the schedule to complete as many games as possible. The phones better be ringing across the league tomorrow, or it's a complete failure on the part of the schools and the league.

everything I've seen says postponed, not a forfeit. SLU message board says this was about travel protocols, not a lack of 7 players + 1 coach, but see below for the local reporter tweet. Some on their board also cite a silver lining, in that their big man would have missed the game with injury but is expected back soon.
Probably will be like last season, where SLU cancels travel to Amherst and the league puts UMass at the disadvantage of having to make it up out there. :(

Travis Ford was vague on the number of SLU players/staff to test positive for COVID but said “It’s more than one and two and three.” He added that SLU has been practicing in recent days with 5 or 6 guys and some can’t go full time. He still hopes to play Sunday against Richmond.

If the SLU game can't be rescheduled in Amherst, the Jan 23rd game in St Louis should be held here.

It looks to me that St. Louis is ducking out. They are probably losing some of their better players so, rather than go to Amherst shorthanded, they opt to cancel. If the game cannot be rescheduled, we should absolutely have the home game on 1/23.

SLU's basketball game at UMass on Thursday will be postponed due to COVID protocols. It can be made up. The A-10's forfeit policy is pending review and possible or likely change.

Be prepared for teams to start weaponizing the whole “lack of scholarship players available” to get out of games or situations that are not advantageous to them… especially for conference away games which I would guess overwhelmingly favors the home team

Is looks like they are trying to reschedule the SLU game. Here's part of the Email I got today from the ticket office.
Thank you for your purchase of UMass men's basketball vs. Saint Louis tickets. Due to COVID-19 protocol within the Saint Louis program that contest has been postponed. The Atlantic 10 is working to reschedule the competition. Tickets for the originally scheduled event will be valid for the newly scheduled competition. All ticket holders will be notified via email when the newly scheduled competition date and time has been announced.

NCAA has said that if a team cannot field a team in the FBS playoffs they will have to forfeit.
I would bet the house that those teams will play with a very minimal amount of players out.

I really liked Travis Ford, but he was never shy about putting together a weak schedule. Covid protocol seems pretty tailor made to his approach.

Given all this, I really, really hope Bamford is trying to schedule any D1,D2, D3 or NAIA school he can find to get us games. 15 games last season was a complete failure. Do that again and I will join the mouth breathers on this board calling for his head. Just schedule until you can’t. There is no strength of schedule nonsense now. Just play games. If rescheduled games are canceled because of Covid rules we get it. 100%. But not until that point.
