Game 7, 2021-22: UMass Lowell (11/24)

Post by 69MG » Sun Nov 21, 2021 10:38 pm

I'm starting this thread and I really don't know what to say after today's debacle. The building will most likely be empty as it's the night before Thanksgiving and interest has waned (that's being kind). Lowell is 4-1 and they have played a lot better than we have. Their only loss is to OK State and they would be at the top of the A10 standings with wins over Dayton and GW.

I'll be in the building, but I don't expect a whole lot of others to be. Hopefully McCall's home/road splits come into play for this one. After what we saw in Florida, I expect the defense to be improved. Based on what? I don't know, but after that showing, there has to be some improvement, right?

Since I'm going to the game I checked out what Lowell has done this year. Their wins are because of their defense. They held Dayton to 58 and GW to 56. Other than OK State, 58 is the most they've given up this year.

They start 2 guys at 6'7, Brooks and Blunt. Brooks hasn't taken a 3 all year so he'll probably go 4/6 against us. Blunt has taken 16 and made 2. The 3 guards they start (6'0. 6'3, 6'5) take most of their 3s but only Hammond (6'3) is above 31%. He's at 39%.

That's all the scouting report we should need. Same old tune: play defense, rebound and keep the turnovers down. It's too bad we don't have a player who could pound them down low. They don't even have anyone off the bench taller than 6'7. One last item:

America East Player of the Week
Max Brooks 6-7 SO UMASS Lowell
Brooks went to work this week in wins over CCSU and GWU. Averaging 20 and 8 in those games.

UMass closes EOD Tuesday, so very minimal student presence.

Thanks for the scouting report 69, but honestly, I don't really care what UM-Lowell does or doesn't do. My only interest is what can UMass do (dare I say UMass Amherst in this case)? Can this team buckle down, show some pride, and play the kind of defense we saw in the second half against UMBC, and against Penn St? There won't be many people there, so they'll need to create their own energy and intensity, right from tip off.

Just wondering if Coach Brown has some extra time to counsel McCall about aggression and defensive execution are all about? Yeah that’s low but it is spillover frustration which is overflowing!

If we lose to UMass Lowell, that would be a colossal failure for Ryan Bamford. To hire 2 failed coaches while our programs are being funded for growth and yet we’re stagnant as our rival and satellite campus continues to only get better.

Tickets for the public have been discounted to $10 for the game with free parking. This includes old conference mate Rutgers this weekend.
Go UMass!!

They really, REALLY need this game to keep the fans engaged this season. I'm always pulling for them but after the football situation, I think people have little patience for poor performance. MM has got to get this back on track or this year will go down the toilet

Not on a holiday weekend. And, many of the weekday classes clash with my teaching schedule. That said, I watch/dvr most on varying pay-tv options.
