Conference Realignment
Re: Realignment: Texas/OK->SEC; UCF, BYU, Ciny,Houston->BigXII-dominos
Is UMass in the right place at the right time? For arguably the first time in history?

If C-USA gets raided perhaps they collaborate with the Sun Belt and re-organize based on geography instead of one conference raiding the other. Maybe a reorganized C-USA could look like this?
App St
Coastal Carolina
Fla Intl
Ga Southern
Ga State
Marshall
Middle Tenn
ODU
Western KY
Add Liberty, then UMass and UConn as football playing members and that's not such a bad 12 team conference. UMass could even be all-in depending on what happens in the A10 and I don't think it would be as bad as joining the MAC as a full member would have been.

Don't like the leadership of CUSA and it's not an ESPN conference. But our team needs a home so not opposed.
There is a lesser possibility Marshall and USM go to the Sun Belt and the MAC does nothing unless ESPN makes it worth their while.
With ODU left and the next reloads to CUSA would JMU and Liberty.
Think we are on the list of other backfills, but UConn remains a mystery as their fans are opposed to a conference.
This is our shot at a conference and noting of the 6 teams the AAC added, the furthest north team is in North Carolina, 49ers.
So the AAC has no interest in us. It's probably CUSA. CUSA will receive about 3M from each of the 6 teams in exit fees unless it can be negotiated down. Would not expect that to happen.
Believe the media contract is about 400k per team and has one year left. Then their is the CFP money which around 16 Million and change. Think we could get a nice amount of revenue, which would off set travel expenses. Have the same mid Atlantic concentration but more outliers as FIU, USM, and UTEP. We'd lose our two close bus trips with URI and Fordham and have to schedule OOC more locally to help off set the travel and local feel.
It's the closes thing to a new eastern conference that retains the CUSA name and auto bid. A strong one bid conference with hopes of being a multi bid conference.
Realize it's 11 teams so time will tell. Noting many of these teams have had NCAA runs as the A10 and cycle around.

I'm very nervous we're going to be left out of the conference party

If this happens, the AD, Chancellor and President of the UMass system should all be shown the door. There has been no activity or statements or anything surrounding UM football. I'm am starting to believe that the only people who care about UMass football are the players, boosters and everyone on this board.

Feel the same way! Bamford is keeping a low profile these day...He was interviewed in the article on the UConn game but other then that very quite on the state of the program.jpatsfan wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 6:03 pmIf this happens, the AD, Chancellor and President of the UMass system should all be shown the door. What’s happening right now with realignment only proves why you shouldn’t entrust your athletic department and top two revenue sports to unproven leaders. College athletics is big business and shouldn’t be run like a child’s lemonade stand.
Re: Realignment: Texas/OK->SEC; UCF, BYU, Ciny,Houston->BigXII-dominos
ODU and Marshall want C-USA to add eastern based teams and are trying to get JMU and Liberty added to the league. If they don't get what they want they're going to jump to the Sun Belt. Plus it looks like Southern Miss is going to bolt to the Sun Belt regardless. There's definitely an opportunity, but I don't think they are going to come to us, Bamford and company are going to have to go to them.

Nobody wants us or FIU so we'll get another member in the FBS Independents (collection of misfit toys).

Maybe with the realignments going on there will be a conference for UMass to join.

Been seeing a little about Delaware looking into a move up (possibly tied to if JMU does, so they wouldn't lose that rivalry). If CUSA needs a team, they might be one of the better calls.
Would love to be able to schedule them again, but this time as an FBS team.
