2021-2022 Games 3 & 4 vs, #20 AIC

Post by KahunaK » Sun Oct 10, 2021 1:39 pm

Hope the team recovered from the losses to Minn. St. Next up is a pretty good and ranked AIC squad. It will be interesting to see if UMASS or AIC is overrated t his early in the season. With 10 new players, you would expect some inconsistency and uncertainty. Rooting for a sweep.

Our own DirSport doing the PA job and an early 4-nil lead for the Carvels can't be all bad. :)

UMASS beat AIC 4 -2, but it was a close, hard fought game. In fact the score was 2 - 2 at the end of the second period and with about 3 minutes to go in the 3rd period when Freshman Lucas Mercuri scored the game winner on a nice assist from ? We had 43 shots on goal vs AIC's 16 until Mercuri's fist collegiate goal. AIC's goalie was terrific in net. AIC pulled their keeper and Kessel had an open netter.

^It was from Bohlinger. Good to have him back.

Coach Carvel often says you get what you deserve. They deserved to win tonight. Game wasn’t as close as the final score indicated. UMass dominated but the AIC goalie played really well which is why the score was as close as it was.

Great bounce back weekend for the team. Lots of room for continued improvement, but nice to get the first weekend stink off.

any concern with only 4400 at the mullins for AIC? I get it is not BC or BU but I would have thought a national champion would see progress in the attendance book.

Not really... it's college hockey and we're still in a pandemic.

Based on what I saw from Twitter over the weekend, it looks like the school is once again making life difficult for the students to get into the Mullins.

Actually, some folks, including the tv announcers, were surprised that there were 4400. It was up against a "must win" Red Sox playoff game, it was streamed for free, and AIC had not been competitive the night before.

Hockey East @hockey_east ·37m
The @ProAmbitions Men’s Rookie of the Week is @UMassHockey forward Lucas Mercuri, who scored his first collegiate goal on Saturday, netting a game-winner and tallying an assist against AIC to complete a weekend sweep for the Minutemen.

The #HockeyEast Men’s Goaltender of the Week is Matt Murray of @UMassHockey. Murray was the only league netminder to win two games this weekend, stopping 38 of the 41 shots he faced over two games in a weekend series vs AIC.

To me there should be 4500 students per night, and 2500 season ticket holders. It should be more about seeing this amazing program and not the Red Sox, (it was game two that stated at 4:00p) and not blowing out Almost in College.
