Faustin Phanor. We offered him in January but there has been no chatter whatsoever. I would like to see him come in as a freshman and have a year to learn since we have Steadman for only 1 year.

I think at this point it looks like UMass may save that last scholarship and not even use it. McCall and company feel comfortable with the current squad as it is.

Re: 2021 Recruiting
Here's a guy we should look at, especially with the questions regarding Steadman. Just announced his transfer today and has 2 years to play. I think he has a shot at being a double double guy in the A10 and he can block shots. He cannot, however, shoot free throws.

It’s quite clear what McCall’s mission is now. To establish a pipeline and get the best talent in state and New England to come to The University of Massachusetts.

Let's hope he can do it.
Let's hope he can do it.
All due respect, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart, I'm gonna pass.

Let’s hope, there is enough talent between NE/NYC and DC to concentrate recruiting and build a strong A10 program. UMass offers strong academics, solid league and good location to attract very talented and academically strong student athletes.

I don't know if this was already posted--I don't recall seeing it--but our nemesis from Northeastern, Tyson Walker, transferred to Michigan St.

Is it possible that the recruiting budget has been reduced in response to lost revenue from Covid or something else (reduced ticket sales) and this is why they are recruiting in this manner? I don't think that you would want to limit yourself geographically. If you see a recruit that you like, you go get him regardless of the location...
I would think that Football, basketball, Hockey at UMass are viewed as profit centers and not cost centers. Therefore, if you are not producing and your revenue is down, budgets get reduced accordingly.
Save your breath... you'll need it to blow up your date

UMass'96 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 09, 2021 11:15 amThe point of recruiting in this manner is to get the kids on campus as much as possible to sell the school. If you spot a recruit in a place that takes 15 hours to get the kid from home to the school, s/he (depending not the sport) is not going to come up for unofficial visits, which are the real selling points for recruits. Bell said the 6 hour drive distance was the “backyard”. He also said flying to Atlanta, etc. direct flights from Bradley were also in that description.wmmmfan wrote: ↑Sat May 29, 2021 12:58 pmWalt Bell was told to recruit within a 6 hour driving distance to UMass.
