Re: Recruiting -- 2018 and beyond
Maybe he has never played with NHL caliber defenseman playing in front of him! Can’t teach size.

Carvel said that UMASS wasn't going to give a 5th-year scholarship to any players. Hence they transferred.DoctorJ wrote: ↑Wed Apr 28, 2021 3:02 pm 04/21/2021 Confirmed Leaving Marc Del Gaizo (D) Nashville Predators

I don't see why Chau and Lagunov don't just stay here...

Re: Recruiting -- 2018 and beyond
^ Nice to get the number of defenseman drafted by the NHL back to three (3) !! Still room for for some NHL draftees up front
Re: Recruiting -- 2018 and beyond
Stole one from the University of North Dakota. We are becoming Defense U. 33 points in 24 games for a D-man. Sounds like Jones, only bigger.

Have now confirmed with three separate sources: UMass has flipped former UND commit Scott Morrow.
Morrow, a Shattuck St. Mary’s product, is projected to go in the first 2 rounds this upcoming NHL Entry Draft. 6’2, right shot, put up 6-27-33 in 24 games this last season with SSM

Re: Recruiting -- 2018 and beyond
^ North Dakota wanted to hold off a year, because they had big numbers for ‘21-‘22. Although he went to high school in Minnesota, he is from Connecticut. Talk about UND misreading the room!!
Re: Recruiting -- 2018 and beyond
This hockey run is starting to feel a little bit like the 90's run in hoop! Hope they play a few games around the state to get more visibility, like a game or 2 in Worcester

Re: Recruiting -- 2018 and beyond
I mean, they play in Hockey East. Just about every conference game is in state or damn near close to it. Granted none are in Worcester but they play in Amherst, Boston (at least three times), Lowell, and North Andover in Mass, and Providence isn’t far from the border either. Not sure how much more they can do to get visibility playing around the state TBH
UMass Football: 22-3 at home when I was a student.

They played at Holy Cross a couple of years ago.

Also, Storrs, CT which is very close.jjmc85 wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 5:05 pmI mean, they play in Hockey East. Just about every conference game is in state or damn near close to it. I love destroying inferior institutions!!! But giving them revenue is a different story.
Let hoop beat up on HC and do it in the Cage again. HC isn't worthy of the Bill.

Re: Recruiting -- 2018 and beyond
I understand. I just don't think a lot of people will travel an hour to watch a college team play, unless you're a diehard. I live in central Mass and was talking up the hockey run this year to people and more than half of them didn't know they were playing for a national championship, and even asked me if they were that good. Maybe it was just the pandemicjjmc85 wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 5:05 pmI mean, they play in Hockey East. Just about every conference game is in state or damn near close to it. Re: Recruiting -- 2018 and beyond
I honestly question the return. I think if they played a “home game” at DCU or something, it would be those of us who drive past Worcester to get to Mullins, the fans who travel regularly to road games from Western MA, maybe some people who show up to one of the three Boston games (and it depends on who the opponent is if they make it) and then being generous maybe a hundred people from the greater Worcester area which will only go see UMass hockey if they don’t have to drive more than 15 minutes? And then what does the team get out of it? Give up a home game (with the ice dimension advantage), rent out DCU, and then those hundred people go see another game? But if they aren’t willing to drive the hour now, I don’t see how this game changes that. I’d rather just play at Mullins. Sure it would be great for those hundred people but I don’t think the return is there.
If Maine still can’t play home games next season and needs to use the DCU Center then that’s about the only way I can see it happening.

Plus, if we play AIC, that one is in Springfield.
I do like occasional games at DCU but I think hoop in Worcester is a slightly bigger draw. UMass med school students don't have time for our hockey bandwagon and there are not enough of them to justify an outreach game.
With this hockey team, we should play anyone, anywhere, anytime like Cal would in the day.
Game in the Garden with a marquee opponent sounds like more fun.

Ok, guess its a bad idea. Thought maybe it might attract a bigger crowd than 100 locals, and get some more people on the bandwagon, but I'm way off I guess.jjmc85 wrote: ↑Wed May 05, 2021 11:06 pm I honestly question the return.
