2020-2021 Season
Re: 2020-2021 Season
I'm not as high on this team as I was. I know BC is a very good but UConn is not and we struggled with them so I'll just "pause" on any excitement yet!

^ It's a bit harder when you are playing without 2 of your best D men. It really showed in our zone against BC. We need MDG back soon.

Exactly, combine that with the fact that BC took advantage of a few small mistakes and had some nice finishes.69MG wrote: Mon Nov 30, 2020 11:22 am ^ It's a bit harder when you are playing without 2 of your best D men. It really showed in our zone against BC. We need MDG back soon.
Looks like this team can roll out four lines that can generate offense. Zac Jones is also a threat with the puck on the blue line. Power play showed some promise too. Lots of good takeaways from a losing weekend.

"As the COVID turns", BU hockey is suspending operations for a bit. HE is going to have a heck of time maintaining a stable schedule.

We are now playing Merrimack instead of UNH Sat and Sun
Re: 2020-2021 Season
^ Merrimack will be shorthanded this weekend, like us they have problems on D. Speaking of that, any word on our guys?

Six HEA teams are currently in COVID-19 protocol and/or have yet to start their seasons.econalum wrote: Thu Dec 03, 2020 7:21 pm "As the COVID turns", BU hockey is suspending operations for a bit. HE is going to have a heck of time maintaining a stable schedule.

My free advice - forego a schedule from here on out. HEA makes weekend schedule decisions for all teams on, say, Wednesdays based on the health of the teams. Cancel the HEA tournament if it’s apparent that all members can’t play each other at least twice... which we are creeping towards. We got 14 weekends left until early March. Need to have at least 10 weekends to do this without playing 3+ games in 7 days.
I’m watching as many UMass hockey games as possible. I’m not sure how many they’ll have before the end of the season.
BTW - UMass hockey has done an incredible job staying healthy in the fight against COVID. Let’s hope they stay safe.

MDG is back. No Lebster or Farmer.69MG wrote: Fri Dec 04, 2020 10:32 pm ^ Merrimack will be shorthanded this weekend, like us they have problems on D. Speaking of that, any word on our guys?
Sounds like the Merrimack problems are "building a culture" healthy scratches.

Big saves by both goalies that period. The alternate sweaters look nice up close but it’s an awful look on tv with Merrimack in white.
Re: 2020-2021 Season
^ Amen to that on the jerseys! It was OK on the close up action, but when the high camera was used - which is the majority of the time - it was a problem.
Kudoes for Merrimack for hanging in.
3-1 final. We are a MUCH stronger team with MDG back. Not that I am breaking news.

Merrimack was pretty good. This was their first game, they skated only 3 lines, but they carried play in the 3rd period. They'll give us a good game this afternoon.

Re: 2020-2021 Season
Congrats to UMASS on the beating Merrimack and also for wearing the ugliest jerseys in HE. AD Bamford has some bizarre fixation on having our hockey and football teams (and perhaps others) wear horrendous "alternate" grey uniforms - they're an alternate to actual sharp looking uniforms.... burn em'

Both of their goalies played well. Interesting to see who gets the start today, any word on why the starter left game after first goal?baseline47 wrote: Sun Dec 06, 2020 11:41 am Merrimack was pretty good. Murray also made some big breakaway saves. Merrimack was due to put one past him. This game should have been closer to a 5-3, 6-4 score. UMass started 0-4 on pp including a long 5-3. PP looked solid and has two scoring lineups to put out there. Also like how Carvel splits up Jones and MDG on the point.

Still #10 with that record
Must be thin group nationwide to still be ranked

We need 4 points this weekend.

It's official: The University of Vermont men's hockey team will return to competition this weekend.
The Catamounts will play a road series at Massachusetts on Friday and Saturday, with the latter to be televised on NESN, the Hockey East Association announced Tuesday afternoon.
The puck will drop at 6 p.m. for both league contests.
