We are getting at least 1 pg. By all reports, and we wont know until he plays at this level, Garcia has more of an all around game than East. I think East will develop in to a good player but we need more in the backcourt. I also look at TJ as a 2020 recruit because he missed so much time this year. If he had stayed healthy he would have been starting over CP for at least a few months now and we probably would have 3 or 4 more wins.

Re: East and CP

I also would like to see what East could do on offense where he doesn’t have to initiate the offense and serves as a secondary ball handler and could attack some close outs.

He’s got a pretty unique game on offense. Most of his threes come off the dribble and not catch-and-shoot. Makes some really good reads at times both in the halfcourt and full court but also can be a bit careless and loose with the ball. Maybe that gets better with experience. I think he’s probably best as a guy who comes off the bench as someone who makes things happen.

I know CP still provides value out there when he’s not making shots because teams still have to pay attention to him so that helps with spacing, but at some point he needs to start hitting some shots or that is going to change. He has these stretches where he just keeps missing. 17-for-82 from three over his last 12 games. The games where he can’t miss are less common.

He's 29% from 3 in league play this year.

Wouldn’t mind seeing East off the ball a bit as well. One thing East needs to improve is his decision making on the pick and roll up top when he’s the point. The off ball defender hedges every time forcing East to back up and lob a lollipop to the screener. Would like to see Sean instead turn the corner create a good roll situation. Or take both defenders with him to enable the pick and pop. He has the speed, but he seems to second guess himself it appears.

It’s really hard to see him struggle like this but with a percentage like that he should not be a starter.

Problem is with roster we have who do you replace him with. Obviously if TJ was healthy he would be starting. It is hard to watch because obviously outside his leadership, shooting 3's is really the only thing he has in his game.

I also think despite CP’s struggles shooting the threat of having him out there does help with spacing. Tre is already being swarmed as it is but without that threat the spacing would be even tighter.

I'd replace him with Walker.

I can’t figure Walker out. He’s certainly shown flashes but they been just that — flashes. I don’t think his situation (starting mid season) or sporadic minutes have helped but he’s had four good to excellent offensive games and then a bunch of forgettable ones. His shooting has been pretty bad too. I hope a full offseason helps him reach the level some folks see for him.

I think it's lack of focus with him...twice last night and several times this year I have seen Tre yelling at him and pointing to his head as if to say - "get your head in the game"

I think it’s a bit simpler with Walker. At the moment, he is a systematic player. He will match up well against teams who have multiple big bodies down low that can’t defend the outside shot and quickness, however if we play a team where is matched up against an athletic forward, he struggles - other players know and feel stronger than him and try to bully him up, a bit of contact and you have him beat. But with that being said, you can fix that and I expect for him to improve and progress: he has a bright future.

Walker is a good get for us. We have only seen the beginning. I expect good things.

uz2b-len, I'm with you. UMass needs to do everything it can to get reinforcements for Tre. Losing TJ hurt, and I'm optimistic about the current signees. Might need one more impact player, along with an interior defender/rebounder.
Hima was at the game...every bit of 7'0 too! and after just watching videos of him, he's not rail thin like I thought he was. I think he would be a more than serviceable backup for Tre. Also see URI, St. Bonnies, VCU have offered so the fact he was on campus for at least 2 days if not 3 seems encouraging...if I'm not mistaken he was on campus Thursday for the visit and decided to stick around a couple more days...not sure you do that if you hate the place.
I'm not sure if this video has been posted before and I can't vouch for the level of competition, but Hima is pretty athletic and doesn't look bad taking jump shots. It's only 1 video so take it with a grain of salt.
