What will we look like in 2018-2019?

Looked it up quickly, all I could find was a brief mention of a dislocated pinky in the pre-season (no further details) and an ankle sprain in mid-October. Those caused 2+ months of lost development time? Or is there something I'm missing?

Anyone that was at the Court Club function in early August saw that he wasn’t out there in the scrimmage and when I asked inquired I was told he got injured in the first summer session. I saw the team in September and he still wasn’t practicing. He was back at the start of practice and then he got hurt again

Thought I'd post something to get this thread going again. One sit out transfer I'm especially curious (I guess I am curious about all of them) about is Curtis Cobb -- I thought we were looking at him coming out of hs (not sure how hard) but I thought he looked pretty smooth from what I remember. Had a couple of decent years at Fairfield although his sophomore year his shooting numbers took a bit of a dip, especially down the stretch. I remember hearing he had a bad fall against Iona in January -- he returned and had 3-4 good games but really tailed off the last 10 games...wonder if the fall had anything to do with it. First 20 games or so he was putting up almost 15/game on 46% shooting and 42% from deep. Last 10 he dipped to under 7/game on 25% shooting with 20% from deep.

If we can get more of the former than the latter, Cobb should be able to help out. Don't think he's the most athletic kid, but if he can make shots he will help. For the four transfers, I think Heyward and Cobb have the chance to help the most on offense (and maybe Laurent if his jumper has improved as we've heard) while I think Laurent and Clergeot have the chance to help the most on d.

When McCall spoke for the last time on the the Insider Show, Cobb was the first transfer he spoke about. Said he was an explosive scorer who had really bulked up his body. Next he spoke about Laurent who he said is a great athlete and could shoot better than he expected. He always says the same thing about Clergeot--fast. He didn't even mention Hayward, but on some other occasions he has said that Hayward has to learn to play with more intensity. He said something else that caught my attention. When talking about next year's increased depth, he mentioned having "13 or 12 players."

If Baldwin, Mclean, and Holloway don’t come back as a lot of people are speculating, and everyone else who is here stays and is healthy, I think the scoring next year would break down something like this:

Pip: ~15 ppg
Curtis & Carl: ~10-12 ppg
Clergeot, Hines, Laurent: ~6-9 ppg
Samba, Wood, Hayward: ~5 ppg
Ray, KTM: ~2-3

Whoever else we get would probably fall into either of the bottom 2 categories.

Obviously I know little to nothing about half of these people. Pure speculation based off of their apparent styles and McCall’s apparent goals.

It's a very long off-season starting around May if we know who is coming back and all of our available scholarships have been filled. Then all we have to speculate about is playing time, projected stats and such. Of course, there is always 2019 recruiting.

If everyone comes back I think we will have 2 scholarships open for 2019 (Hines & Holloway).

2020 - 4 (Pipkins, Baldwin, Cobb, Laurent)
2021 - 5 (Hayward, McClean, Pierre, Klergeot, Turner-Morris)

Of course, the odds of the roster looking like this for 3 years is close to zero.

It is a fan message board, the whole premise of this place is fans opining, speculating, posting tidbits to keep the conversations flowing. You post what you think, feel, and hope will happen.


So... I can def see Baldwin leaving, he could take the redshirt year off to get healthy, plus it seemed like he and McCall were never really on the same page. Unique already redshirt(ed) so if he left he'd lose a year of eligibility unless he transfers close to his home and gets a family hardship waiver. Halloway is a big (no pun intended but intended) unknown. He is in his 4th academic year so if he graduates in May he can leave as a grad transfer or try to get enough credits over he summer to qualify as a grad transfer. I could def see Kellogg welcoming he and Baldwin to LIU.

I just can't see how Holloway could be in position to graduate if he didn't even meet the academic eligibility requirements lst semester. I think Baldwin would be wise to transfer--like you say, he could use the red-shirt year to get fully healthy and he probably would be stuck on the bench with a deeper team.

^Unless he quits basketball or McCall says "sorry not sorry there's no place for you on this team", both of which are unlikely, Holloway will be on this roster next year.

^ For a guy who couldn't keep himself academically eligible during his 4th year in college, and who doesn't seem to fit the style of play that the coach wants, I wouldn't call it unlikely that McCall might tell Holloway to go elsewhere.

Holloway probably also has the option of going pro overseas.

^ I guess that's true. I doubt he'd just tell him there's no spot, but like the article mentioned, in the meetings RH might just not like what he hears.

My overview for the coming season is that if everyone returns, we'll have an average amount of talent for the a10. We'll have one guy whose a top ten player in the conference (obviously, Pip) and one guy who is looking like he'll be better than average (Pierre). Cobb and Laurent may be better than average but that remains to be seen. Beyond that is nothing but average and below. Holloway and Baldwin haven't lived up to their potential and I can't call their contribution any better than average. Hines is average. Clergeot and Hayward haven't demonstrate that they would be any better than average, if that. From my exalted status i declare that McClean and KTM are below average for the conference, and the freshmen are, well, freshmen. So I think a decent coach could get them to 9-9 in the conference. I'm very curious to see if McCall can do better.

Even calling Pip a top 10 player in the conference seems like it’s selling him short to me. If trades were allowed in college, I honestly wouldn’t give him up for anyone in conference.
