Only an idiot would have predicted 8 wins this year, a bowl appearance and a call soon from the Big 10 with an invitation to join the conference.

Further, the Big ten idea was always geared towards them picking likeminded academic institutions. Umass has dramatically improved and frankly I suspect there is ZERO chance you could ever get into Umass today.. I know I could.

Yes we did get manhandled. However they were much better prepared to make the move than we were. Their records for the last five years are, 2012 7 - 4, 2013 8 - 5, 2014 10 - 2, 2015 11 - 1 and 2016 9 - 3 for a total of 45 - 15. They had the same head coach for those years not the bad coaching by our last two previous coaches, Morris and Molner, that did not leave Whip with a very competitive team. I am very disappointed with the start to this season and was expecting at least a 1 - 1 or better yet 2 - 0. Whip definitely needs to have an offensive co-coordinator calling the plays so he can concentrate on the overall game.

This is a BS excuse. We are in year six of FBS football and year 4 of Whip 2.0. Coastal Carolina also lost the majority of its offensive production to graduation and started freshmen and newcomers. This was their first game of the season. They had few first game mistakes. We had another dropped fair catch. Coastal Carolina played a nobody schedule last year as well. Sure they were like 2 of 12 on third down, but they never needed to convert as our LBs completely missed their gap assignments.

Hey, has the big 10 called yet? I have been out for awhile. I'm hearing we might get the invite immediately after our bowl win this year.

Whipple took a team that was 2-9 in 1997 and lost to a BU team that was dropping its program, and won a national championship in less than a year. So the excuses that Molnar (and Morris) left him with nothing ring hollow to me. Year 4 should be more than enough time to see progress, if not great results.

One of the things that concerns me is that Whipple, for whatever reason, seems to have a one-dimensional offense now. Those of you who remember, think back to that national title team. Sure they threw the ball a ton, but they also had a great run game with Shipp and complementary backs like Jordan, Holston. Excellent WRs (Moore, Zullo), great TE (Taylor). It was almost impossible to stop.

Now he is lamenting that the offense disappeared when Breneman got hurt. Oddly enough, it seems the offense took a big step back from Year 1 to 2 when Sifrin didn't come back. There was no excuse for a team with Frohnapfel, Sharpe, Young and others to underachieve the way they did in 2015. I started to see the signs back then, but hoped the program would continue to grow out of it. Unfortunately it sure doesn't appear to be.

There is no going back to FCS, so let's forget that idea. That's a reason why you no longer see football at BU and Northeastern. Idaho is not a school we should be emulating. But a change is needed. Bamford has shown he is willing to make change -- Kellogg, Micheletto, Dawley. Hopefully he sees the big picture here. It might not, or even probably, won't happen during the season, so that sucks. Just as we don't know what the future holds with the stadium, or conference, or whatever, it sucks to have to continue to have faith, keep buying tickets and ride it out. But that's what I will do, because I love my school above anything else and I want what is best. I thought on Dec. 26, 2013 that Whipple again would be the answer. Sadly, we were wrong about that, for whatever reason.

No excuses for that loss last night, OL and DL got destroyed and again two turnovers. UMass OL and DL used to be aggressive and fiery over the years, not seeing it from this group.

I believe Whip needs to win 4 games or Bamford will be moving on at the conclusion of the season.

I also think there needs to be some sort of plan laid out to the faithful at the end of the season. Fundraising needs to be done to endow the coaching positions so we can hire a solid HC and have money to pay for quality assistants. I am not disparaging any of the staff but a few may be in over there heads at this level. Stadiums a joke for D1 college football but we need to win first before we worry about a stadium.

I was not discouraged after last week, a few balls bounce differently and that one was a W but last night was extremely tough to take. Everyone in my house stayed away from me but the dog and even he approached cautiously.

Stay committed we WILL WIN AGAIN!

@DickieDunn- It's like those mutual fund and stock investment commercials where they say "past performance is not indicative of future results."

Translation, we aren't winning 8 games this year, and the Big Ten is never calling on UMass to join the conference.
