Left Umass undermanned so he could improve his "draft stock" it's always about him, I know opinions of him differ.. But I am certainly not a fan

He was a kid who made decisions that you didn't like. I'm glad there wasn't a message board dissecting my decisions when I was young. They would have had a lot to talk about. I'm not throwing any stones. Good luck Derrick.

If you've never done what's best for you in your career then, you're not doing it right.

Also, last I heard, being a firefighter, you help out the community and keep those around you safe, so I don't think this is a move about him in the long run.

A firefighter?!? Interesting career choice. I never would have guessed. Hope he's successful!

Agree, we should be done with Derrick Gordon!

Former UMass guard Derrick Gordon has no regrets as he walks away from basketball

Best of luck to him. Sounds like he's matured and has decided to go into a tough, but rewarding profession. I don't dislike him, but I'm not a "huge fan" of his either. I think most people really didn't care if he was gay or not (in a good way). Now if he were the first openly gay college basketball player who could shoot 40% from behind the arc that would have been something.

@Joshua_Newman @NJHoopsHaven I doubt it had anything to do with his inability to shoot >30% from 3PT or >60% from the FT Line.....

It is actually a shame that he had to take it there..... He really has/had delusions of grandeur regarding his basketball abilities. His statement may or may not be accurate, but he wasn't getting any run with any team regardless.

Good Christ. In a world full of young basketball players who have delusions of grandeur, DG stands alone. Get a clue, Derrick.

I could have played in the NFL but the NFL wasn't ready for an average D3 player.....

Ha - good one!

I really thought I was a shoe-in to play baseball except that my career little league batting average was .185 and my high school fastball clocked in at 68-MPH.
