Candidates for 2017 UMass HC vacancy
Re: Candidates for future UMass HC vacancy
For comparison sake, just saw that NC State is spending $90k on a consulting firm to find its new coach.

Re: Candidates for future UMass HC vacancy
Was just clicking around this morning and read an interview with Warren Buffett on CNBC and he was talking about investing in index funds for the average investor vs. paying high fees to Hedge fund managers and it immediately made me think about the process of hiring consulting firms for the head coach search. Here's the quote by Buffett:78 wrote:For comparison sake, just saw that NC State is spending $90k on a consulting firm to find its new coach.
"And what really gets me is sometimes they hire consultants. They say, "Well, I don't know enough to pick good managers, but I know enough to pick a good consultant." I have never quite figured out why they can't figure out who a good manager is, then some guy comes in, says, "Well, I'm a good consultant." So it's really sad"
Replace coach with manager had me laughing.

Not familiar with CB McGrath. He has never been a HC, correct?skizz wrote:Bamford should also look at someone like CB McGrath at UNC or Norm Roberts at Kansas. Both excellent recruiters and if you've seen the bigs and guards at these two schools then you have to like what's being taught.
Looks like there has been chatter about him making that move for some time (e.g., 2012): http://cjonline.com/sports/2012-03-24/t ... r-move-unc.

You are right MikeEsq Why hire an assistant coach. We hired one years ago and Calipari was a real epic failure too

I'm like Caputo more and more as I research. He would also be our best bet to keep the NOLA duo.. they would also be able to share their relationship with other players on the team and how they feel about him. Has experience with a magical mid major making a historic run as well as being on staff in the ACC

That’s what I was thinking. In both situations the teams he has worked for have overachieved, in league and in the NCAA tourney.

I hope Caputo is in the mix. I like his resume: http://www.hurricanesports.com/ViewArti ... =205555812

Priority should be keeping deeky and Gresham. If they stay everyone else should fall in. (Except donte)

I don't agree. The priority should be getting the best coach for the next 4-5 years. If that means Jarreau & Gresham stay, or go, so be it.bmc24 wrote:Priority should be keeping deeky and Gresham. If they stay everyone else should fall in. (Except donte)

That goes without saying...I'm talking in terms of talent
Re: Candidates for future UMass HC vacancy
My opinion is that this pending civil suit detracts from the job and makes it somewhat risky. This impacts a coach lookinbntonmake a quick decision as this issue will not be expediently resolved especially if what we learn in the coming days further incriminates the staff.

Now that I've had time to process and accept the decision by the AD, I will throw in my 2 cents. I want somebody with head coaching experience; I'm in the King Rice camp.
Re: Candidates for future UMass HC vacancy
Has anyone watched Monmouth, Vermont or Miami play this year? I'm curious to know what kind of system/strategies Rice, Becker and Larranaga (Caputo) employ.
